Can anyone lend me a quick hand and tell me the capacities and recommended gear oil type for the following:

F+R diffs
transfer case
tranny

1987 BJ-73

Thanks alot!

okay, the 3B has a 7L capacity... I thought the diff capacity would be an easy question? Any takers? Please?

sucks when no one has the answer.

I know I've been there..
Juat have to keep digging to find the answer to your
question.. Try searching it should be here some place.

Regards

Ok its 4.9 litres for the gear box ,2.2 for the t/case 3 litres for the front diff and 2.5 of LSD oil for the rear if its LSD

Thanks for the reply. One question, how would I know if it is LSD in the rear? One thing I did notice is the gear oil in the rear diff was purple... might be an indication I guess... can you tell through the VIN or something?

OK, I just noticed another thread re: decifering codes under the hood. Am I correct that K085 is LSD and K082 is open diffs in the 73's? Thanks for the input...

Yes ,that's correct, but according to the decoder there is also a 2 spider LSD version labeled a K083.
Is yours an Aussie spec vehicle? They are 99% K085

Well, I just had a look and I've got the K082 - open diffs. Thats okay though, the Aussie Locker is in my sights!... thanks for the help!
