oil pressure gauge drops when i stop. (not on my cruiser)

sorry guys, but this is about my heep cherokee. i don't have anyone else to ask who would know, so i have to post here.

when i come to a stoplight, my pressure gauge drops to zero, but when i start driving again (even if only rolling) it comes back up.
this only happens after i have been driving for 30 min or so.

again, sorry for posting a heep question in here, it's my wife's ride and
she is concerned.

Have you verified the gauge is reading correctly? My g/f had a pontiac that did the same thing. Although the oil pressure was droping, it was not going low enough to be a problem. The sending unit had failed below 30 PSI. I replaced the sending unit, and it was fine.

Thread a mechanical gauge in there to check tha actual presure. Then change the sender as said (if mech shows good).

Switch to a thicker oil and see if that makes a difference.

Sounds like the bearings are getting worn to me..

Thicker oil did make quite a difference for my pressure. Moved it up half a notch.

I have the same problem on the 96 grand cherokee. It is accompanied by the check engine light that seems to have a mind of it's own. I have had the damn thing on the diagnostic about 8 times in the last 2 years and have gone through 3 batteries. What i have found is that Jeeps are pieces and that the electrical system is a joke that even the dealers don't have a clue about. Other than the annoying check gauges light that comes on and beeps every 10 seconds when the truck is at idle, I have not been able to find anything that warrants any attention. I have found that shifting into neutral or park seems to help for a short while. Other than that, wait for winter, doesn't seem to do it in cold weather.....

mine is also a 96 grand, thanks for the tip. i haven't had mine in a winter yet, so i'm excited to see if your theory is correct. oh and skokem, check your pm's.

I have a 1988 heep Grand Waggoner with the same problem. Pressure drops to what looks like 3psi to 0. When coming to a stop. I figured the main bearings were worn and the oil could not build pressure at higher temps. I have never seen a larger bastard child then the grand Waggoner. There is DNA from Ford, AMC, and Chrysler. I have know idea who the father is. The best way to fix a jeep is to get rid of it.
