Do you really have to support the motor when you pull the transmission & transfer case? The FSM says to support the transmission and transfer assembly for removal (duh) but doesn't say anything about supporting the motor.

Not to pull the T/TC, but to get to the oil galley plug you'll have to remove the bellhousing which has the rear mounts.

The plug in question covers the back end of the camshaft. Be careful of getting metal shavings in there as it will trash the bearing just behind the plug. I have successfully installed that plug on my 74 FJ40 without pulling the transmission and bellhousing. Pull the tranny hump and heater assembly and you should be able to get to it. You may also have to pull the passenger seat and gas tank to have room to work.

Good Luck,

James

???????????

Both the main oil galley plug and the cam plug are covered by the bellhousing, so how do you access either one of them without pulling the BH?
This pic is of a '74 F.....

The second pic is what you see if you remove the heater and hump....Still don't see how you can get to the cam plug.

Huh? Maybe you're talking about the freezeplug at the back of the head? Or about another vehicle type?

Anyway, I think the topic is the smaller plug in part of the oil gallery to the left of the crank centerline. The cam plug is big and on the right.

You are correct. A picture's worth a thousand words.

I'm sure I was under the influence of several barley pops at the time.
