Would anyone recommend an oil for a 2F? I'm at the 500 mile mark on my motor and need an oil change. I was thinking about putting a synthetic 10W-40 in it. I also heard quart capacity is about 8-8.5 quarts. Is that right for a 75 2F? Thanks much, Andy

Just use a good 10-30...its a 2f ;). God why am I thinking 7quarts right now????????? Maybe because of the wee little modern filter Toyota sells in place of the big ones.

It must be time for me to change my oil...if'n I cant remember the amount of oil I use

500 is too early for synth, IMO.

Other than that, there is not a lot of difference in the leading brands.

8qts including the filter.

What would the difference be between using conventional or synthetic so early IYO? Thanks for the info!

But go at least a half quart shy if you are using the little filters. If you get the original filter size then all 8 is ok. The replacement filter Toyota sells now is about 1/5 or 1/6 the size of the orig.

You need things to get seated right. Synthetic is too slippery for the break in period. The 2F is not exactly a Ferrari engine, it can take normal oil and live a good long life.

Great to know guys! I'm going on a 600 miler this weekend, so I figered I'd change now. Thanks for the info. This place is such a wealth of knowledge. On another note, I'm so glad I kept the pig. I am really looking forward to my trip goin 50 all the way to Mississippi. There's something about just cruising in the pig that beats any vehicle i've had. Turn off the radio, roll down the windows and just mosey.

Lots of mythology, but remember this: fresh oil is good.

There is no magic about the 2F. It a low rev, low stress. low power motor with a large capacity. Any motor oil will work well.

I'd use Chevron Delo 15w-40. It's perfect for this motor and not expensive. Almost synthetic performance at a conventional price.

The synthetics are great-you can change to them anytime. If you want to use one, hard to go wrong with Mobil1 15w-50.

I am also a fan of diesel oil and run the Rotella T 15w-40. I used to run Castrol 20w-50 in the Summer. 30 weight oil is too thin for a 2F IMHO unless it is real cold where you live.

Thanks for the info! I bought some Rotella 15W 40 today and putting it in tomorrow. Thanks for all the help! I'm in Texas, so i'm not too worried about getting too cold. It does get pretty brisk down here though!

Good choice.

All of the Heavy Duty oils are excellent. I have a slight preference for Delo because of the very high quality base stock that they use, but Rotella is great stuff too and highly thought of by the OTR trucker guys.

All kind of funny really. I realize that my PO's and original owners made it 27 and 30 years on mostly old 30 and 10-30 though in it's earliest years I think my 55 was ingesting 10-40 in Wyoming. Both were originally colorado vehicles that made the switch to the desert.

So, I think the best qoute here is "Lots of mythology, but remember this: fresh oil is good."

All good advice and personal notion and $ influence. Don't think you will go far wrong with any suggestions here.
