CO land cruisers:
Greetings, I'll be visiting my Father-In-Law's home in Crested Butte around 4th of July.
I'll be doing some extremely light and tame wheeling (new baby will likely be in the car), and Paradise Divide will probably be the most aggressive road I travel.

What's the deal with OHV permits/registration? Do you need one for Forest Service and dirt road exploration? I realize it's only $25, just want to get y'all's consensus on it.

They say we're supposed to have them on OHV's, but I don't know a single person that does. The story was that you only needed it on a "trail" but I don't know of any "trails" you can get an OHV on, we ride on FSR's - "forest service roads". We do a little volunteer work from time to time and they've never mentioned it, and I ran the Dakan Road a couple weeks ago into a checkpoint, they didn't stop me, just the ATV's. :meh:

That's been the general consensus for years. I think they're trying (hoping?) to change that because the Forest Service doesn't see any taxes from the state DMV. Rumor mill is saying that if you're on a trail that exists to be nothing more than a trail, and is not a road, (Metberry, China Wall?) you need OHV stickers.

Thanks - that's exactly what I was looking for. I'll blow it off. Appreciated!
