I wheeled for the first time in a year and ahalf today, and it felt GOOD. I ran over and wheeled the Tri-State Jeepers property today with Josh(twentyfootdaredevil) and some other club members. Thanks for the invite Josh I had a great time and did just what I set out to do. I seen how the rig worked with its new parts and pieces.
I had a fuel issue, the fuel pump lost prime two or three time, mostly nose down, but once on flat ground. Just had to take the fuel line off at the carb and kick on the fuel pump(elec) and off we'd go. I'm thinking at least part of it is the fuel filter, because it was running rough and low on power when I got it home and ran it down the road.
The winch still works. Thanks for pulling cable guys, the frontlocker is on the wish list.
Power steering is still not on the rig. This is a must do item, I'm getting too old and out of shape not to. Besides a gym membership is too expensive, althow with the amount of time it takes me to get anything done in the garage it may be quicker to join a gym.
The new tires are still undecided. Love the better ground clearance, but felt like I had better traction out of the old Big O M/T's. But I may have been running too much air(14fr 11r). I'll play with that a little once we get to the Badlands on some more familiar spots and see what happens.
The lift springs were OK, I miss the flex in my old ones. But hey, the pics will look much cooler with one or two tires in the air.
Need to fill in the big hole in the firewall where the heater blower was. Talk about kicking out some heat, after about an hour or two I was soaking wet, but still smile'n.
I also have to rebuild the parking brake(parts have been in the garage for weeks). After I fix the back wall of the garage.
I have to tell you all this as a public service safety warning. Plus my wife has threatened to get on here and make sure you know about my brain fart. It all stems from the no parking brake, so the 40 is in gear to keep it from rolling around. I was working on something for today at about 11:00pm last night, and thought I should start it up to see if all was working OK. Yea my cruiser does start really easy, just a tap of the key, IT ALSO STARTS IN GEAR! So it fires up and jumps, I jump, it hits the work bench in the front of the garage, the winch control box is at work bench level now. This is why I mentioned that the winch still works above. It took about five seconds for the tires to get enough traction to kill the engine. Other than the funny smell coming from the back of my pants the only damage was a bent up winch control box and the back wall of the garage has the sill plate pushed from the middle of foundation to the outside edge of it. I figure I can push it back in place with the cruiser just from the other side and in the seat this time. Glad no one was in front of the truck. Parking brake WILL be fixed this week and never left in gear in the garage again. The two black marks on the floor will be there for a while to remind me also, and the brown one. I also imagine both stepsons will be rubbing it in for a while.
All in all it was a great day at a great property (not wagon friendly). I figured I'd better type this up tonight because I may not be able to move my arms tommarow, and I'm not going to say a word about Tony being to old for a manual, my knee is killing me.
But I'm still smile'n
