Hi Folks,
I'm from Chicago and expect to be in the Colorado Springs area with our1987 FJ60 Land Cruiser on Thursday, January 7. I'm wondering if anyone might be available and willing to accompany us for some off-roading.

I don't know the area and will have two others with me, so I don't want to go out alone. I know this is very short notice, but if any of you is looking for an excuse to go wheeling on Jan. 7, we'd be happy to provide it.

Our Cruiser is reasonably well outfitted: winch on front, about a 3-inch suspension lift, 31-inch tires, and air locking differential in the rear with the stock open diff in front. I don't have chains but am willing to get them if you recommend them for a run you want to do. I think I'd say my personal level of skill and experience is moderate.

If anyone wants to show us a trail in the area, we'd love it. Whether or not we can arrange a trip, I hope the New Year has begun well for all of you and brings you many more good things before it ends.
Thank you.

I don't need an excuse, but it is a plus!
How long will you be here?
How much of the day do you have?
How far from the Springs are you willing to travel?
What type of trail? Easy? Vehicle damage expected?
It is gonna be cold as .................... Chicago on Thursday, but let me know what type of trail you want to do and we would be more than happy to show you some.
If it would come to chains, I have at least one set that would fit 31's.

Thank you, Nanuk! Let me answer your questions in order.

We'll be staying with family, arriving the day before, and can commit the entire day on Jan. 7 to whatever you want to do.

Since we've already come from Chicago, I can't imagine any distance from Colorado Springs that would be too long! Take us as far as you want for good sight-seeing and off-roading.

As for trail difficulty, we prefer the option of avoiding vehicle damage. I understand that damage is always a possibility, and we've done some in the past, so I know how to live with it. But I'd prefer moderate difficulty that offers at least the possibility of getting through without damage. If in spite of that possibility, I mess up, I'll understand -- as long as we can get out and back to Chicago safely.

Cold we're prepared for, even if disaster strikes and we would need to stay out overnight. Thank you for the offer to borrow your chains if we need them.

I think that's it. Let me know if you want any more information.
Peace,

Don, where ya thinking about heading? Let me know and I will try to get a KP.

My initial thought is up Gold Camp area and then maybe over to 24 and to Chinamans. :hhmm: Gonna ponder it some today and decide.

Thanks to both of you for your thoughts. We're still on schedule to be in Colorado Springs tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 6) and can be any place you want us to be whenever you want on Thursday morning. Just let us know.

Nanuk, feel free to call on Myra's cell phone if you think the back-and-forth of conversation will help.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a KP?

Art,
I'm heading out on what might be a fun recovery mission now, I will call you this afternoon or tonight.
I was wondering the same thing about KP. Ko Pilot maybe?

Andy, I will try to call you here in a few minutes.

Just got home from recovering a NISSAN! :grinpimp: It did have 35" Boggers though. Gotta hit the shop, re-pack everything, check it out and get ready for in the morning! :steer:
Did find a REALLY cool rock garden.

I wouldn't want to wash dishes anyway! (Army KP)
