For those of us with the 1973 oem cable op carbs with the base mounted bell tank... my cable gunked up and stuck at part throttle... almost revved the crank right out the tailpipe... needing a replacement and needing it now, I opted to fit a spare fj62/ fj80 w/o cruise throttle cable to my 1973 fj55 with fj60 2f and carb ( fittment will work regardless of 2f or carb vintage, so long as it is based on the orm73 bell crank).... the result was a 2 hour slow paced easy mod of the bell crank cable holder, and the cable holder at the throttle pedal proper. The oem 3fe throttle cable only needed the mounting ear holes slotted slightly to the outside of the ears in order to bolt right up to the firewall holes. Mods to the bell crank are: 1. Close the hole the cable housing passes thru to fit the 3fe cable housing, 2. slot the bottom of the opening in order that the cable can be inserted without removing the nuts( which would require cutting the actual cable and is not necessary). 3. tacking some humps to the bracket ala the oem 3fe cable bracket (see pics).
Mods to the accel pedal are 1. Bend the barrel tab open and, 2. Drill a small hole in the center of the face and cut a narrow slot to it ( see pics). Following these details, everything bolts right up. There is a lot more cable on the 3fe part, so it can take a nice leasurely stroll from the firewall, AROUND the carb, and back the the bell crank... it runs like butter down a hot knife...hth

The slot to the hole in the center of the face of the bent barrel catch comes in from the side, perpendicular to the slot in the pedal rod. The rubber bushing pinches between the rod and modified barrel catch. The little unused plastic bobbin behind the rod can be cut off..

I forgot to mention that the holes for the barrel in the bell crank need to be opened just a tad for the 3fe's larger barrel diameter. Again, hth! :steer:

And now back to my day job... as a baby sitter...
