Well you did call, didn't you!!!!!! ;) ;)

Besides, I know you would be much more upset if it was 444 (does that superstition follow where you are? I know it comes from the pronounciantion of the number 4 in chinese, but don't know how far it permiates other asian cultures).

Cary,

Glad to know that you got your smileys back. We thought that you had no emotions up until now. What the heck? It's not letting ME put any smileys now.

Anyway, the number 4 thing holds true here as well, although not as much as it used to. I think it was kind of funny in that way that some landlords would not include the number "4" in their room numbers of apartment buildings or something like that. But now, I don't think that's the case anymore.

Also, when you buy a set of china, like rice bowls, you usually don't find a set of four, either (five might be more common).

I'm sure many of you wanted to know that.

Mot,

what is the lucky number? Is it 9 like here in Thailand ???
Just recently there was an auction for a number plate with the ending ..9999. The highest bidder paid 3,000,000 Baht
That is around 73000 US-Dollar

People are nuts sometimes :flipoff2:

BTW, this is very important JUNK :whoops:

I know in chinese culture, the number 8 is lucky. Even in California (which has a large chinese and taiwanese population) you will occationally see articles about people paying large sums of money for plates like 888 or 8888.

Thread hijack:

In Chinese, "4" sounds like death and the mere mentioning of "death" is consider to be extreme bad luck (or superstitious) for those who believe in it. 13 is also an unlucky number as is 14 (sounds like "one-to-die"). "8" sounds like "rich" and is synonimous with people who think likewise. Numbers 6 and 7 have no significant meaning in the Chinese culture.

It is interesting to see some people take extreme measures to have or to avoid these numbers. Ever been in a building with no 4th, 13th, and 14th floor

How about 164 - roughly translated in Chinese to be "death all the way". Talk about a bad number on a car plate (death trap).
