At what klms did these symptoms occur? Have the pumps ever been looked at by specialist diesel shops?

Jamie.......yep my sentiments exactly, I have just left it at the moment, Rosco.....my car has 180,000 miles on it and that's verified, I will be checking with a diesel specialist when I get a chance to get to a city, the town I live in is so small they have only just discovered air!!

I will check back when I have had it looked,
