Hi guys.. noticed just the other day I got an odd hole in my muffler, it's not out of the question that I managed to hit something with it but seems pretty odd like an intentional plug of some sort maybe?

I've had the truck for nearly a year now (2008 LC), and I feel like it may have been there in some form the whole time but maybe not the punch out in the middle. My inspection (and registration) is due at the end of the month so need to get it sorted out as I have to imagine i'd rightly fail for this.

Looking at pictures of OE mufflers there's no hole like this but wondering if anyone else has something similar or have an idea of what's going on here. The exhaust isn't super loud or anything so doesn't seem like the inside was cut out unless it's hard to tell?

I'm thinking i'll take it to an exhaust shop and talk over replacing it with a mangaflow or something of the sort or patching it.

Yup, odd indeed. Also the joint in the passenger side pipe looks newer (not rusty), so the exhaust system may have some history to it. I would ask at a muffler shop if it’s repairable before I would consider replacement. Unless you want to alter the sound, OEM is a good bet for replacement.

I wasn't dying too but I don't mind altering the sound a bit as long as its not too much. Not sure I could stomach the OEM replacement price though, althought at ~700$ its not as a bad as I'd expected.

Very odd. The hole does look intentional, but I can't imagine why anyone would do that on purpose. Obviously, the OEM muffler has no such "feature:"

I agree with @Sandroad that OEM would be a good choice for replacement.
