came across this vid for swapping out OCV filters on a 4runner (helpful channel btw) and wondered if similar vids are available for the GX460 but couldn't find any. Has anyone swapped these out? The filters themselves (part# 1567846020) are pretty cheap, seems like would be an easy maintenance job on the GX.

From a quick search, on these V8s it sounds like the filters are buried pretty deep in comparison to the V6.

Those filters are embedded & inside valve cover on 1UR-FE

3UR-FE example

Def not as accessible as the 4Runner then

lol I just watched the same T4RGarage video today. Good to know when my valve covers come off I might throw some of these in the mix.

yeah, wish I knew about them when I had my valley plate done

Yeah, but how many vehicles have these done? Probably not very many, and still running strong. Sucks not being able to replace something so simple for peace of mind though.

I don't see this filter as a maintenance item and I've never seen them called out for inspection/replacement in the 1GR-FE. This is more of a strainer that you may find on your fuel pump or washer fluid bottle, designed to protect the sensitive VVTi components from failure due to foreign objects (broken gasket material, o-rings or seals).

I think the dude in the video is reaching.

Wipe them down next time your valve covers are off or spend a few bucks to replace...but I don't see any reason to add them to a maintenance calendar. Most likely, if one clogs up...you are going to have plenty of other symptoms.

The 1UR-FE in the 2007 4Runner I sold a few years ago is running fine at 300k...never touched those things.
