Anyone interested in going to the Indian Arm on Monday Oct 10th?

I had planed and promised Robin we would do this trip after getting invited. Well that group has now evaporated....something about rain?

So any web wheelers interested in going to see what the end of the Indian arm looks like come along. The road starts in Squamish, I have no directions other than a map book, I assume the "other group" knew how to get there.

Depending who is coming and were you are coming from we can meet along the way.

Plan to hit the road in Langley by 8:30am.
 
The road to the Arm is fully open. I was there yesterday. Check out the rooster tail at N 49 32.729, W 122 54.980 (pic 1).

The Arm looks something like pic 2.

We wanted to get to Norton Lake but I was too afraid to try and squeeze past the big rock at the west end of the lake. Aside from that the road to Norton is a breeze.

Wow those pictures look great! Was the gate open? Is this road accessed off the #99 right by the casino?

Turn right off of 99 just before the casino onto Mamquam FSR. It hugs the face of the Chief. At about 1.7km there's a bit of an opening/parking lot and the road splits into three. You want the right-most one. I think it's called Stawamus Indian River FSR. There's on open yellow gate there and a sign that says "Bridge out at 10km No Access" or something like that. It's lying. The road is smooth and there are no obstacles right now. Although there is a sign that says you're subject to a fine at the 10km mark (On the way in the sign was fresh. On the way out it was vandalized). From there it's pretty much a straight shot to the Arm.

Don't take the right onto Oleson FSR (I think) about 1km or less past the open yellow gate I mentioned. It's tempting but it's the wrong way.

On your way back from the Arm, at about 4.5km, is a right onto Hixon Creek FSR. This will take you to Norton Lake. If you've got the balls to squeeze past the pointy rock and you get to the lake, please post some pics.

Fantastic thank you for the directions.

We are meeting at 9am at the Bean Around the World Coffee shop at the Westview exit in North Van and there is a McDonalds, Esso and Save-On foods there as well north side of the hwy. We will be leaving by 9:30 sharp.
 
So, by about 10:00AM the girls were asking if we could go wheeling, go figure.
We ended up at Hale/ Fossil beach
 
Anybody heard from Wheelingnoob? I hope he's not still out there.
 
I don't know Wheelingnoob's real name or phone number or anything. Can someone who does phone him up? I seem to have lost my member's list. Seems a little strange that there's no post from him.
 
Sorry guys! We made is out fine, had a good trip. The road is very easy with lots of cross ditches. We did a side route to the lake that was talked about, the rock is mean looking but would be passable with some time.

I got back from Thanksgiving dinner late and have been on site for work since so not internet access. Andrew called me a few min ago after getting a call from Sheldon wondering if we made it out ok. Sorry for not posting that we made it home fine. I am at a Starbucks parking lot posting with my laptop on a parts run.

I typically don't pay attention to people that go out and if they make it back safely.
Most people I know typically don't wheel alone and if they do they usually tell someone in their extended family or close friends where they are going.

I may txt or email a friend how the trip went but thats usually the next day.

Just did the trip to Norton (Oct 17th)

Got to the lake, but it was dark and I had to turn back (Scared of the squeeze in the dark)

Very slow with all the cross ditches
 
Would anyone recommend doing this trip this late in the season? I just picked up the backroads map and was looking at this exact trip. I was curious of how much snow would be on the stawamus? I'm looking to go within a week from now if there is a clear day. I'll take my 84 pickup, so shouldn't have a problem squeezing by "the pointy rock", if I can get there of course. :)
 
I do not belive you will make it this time of year. There is snow in the forecast for Vancouver this week and it will for sure be all snow up there.
 
Even in the summer that road is usually closed pretty well. Some of us broke through a few months ago with some work and made it to the Arm. Then for a few weeks afterwards there was some forestry work going on and the road was fully open all the way. During that time I made it to the Arm and Norton Lake, but it was closed again in late summer.

I've heard that, even before the snow fell, it was closed again with a significant blockage at the 10km mark (where that sign up-page is). I haven't seen the new blockage, but I tried to get to it last weekend and got stymied about 5km from it by the snow. I had my 33"s at 15 PSI and V-bars on all fours and couldn't make it. There was a dude in some crazy 4x buggy thing with probably 40"s who passed me and I never saw him again so maybe he made it. Also, a skidoo ripped past me.

If you make it to the blockage at 10km plz post some pics. Good luck, but I doubt it.
