OBD code reader recommendation needed

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a code reader, or at least what to watch out for.

I prefer to have one that reports on sensor readiness to avoid smog tests problems.

Check out the Inova readers. I have had good luck with them. They provide live data as well as cycle readiness allowing you to know when its safe to take to emissions. Read the information as many readers will work better on certain car makers.
I think I paid around $175 on Amizon.

Decided on the INNOVA 3100 from Amazon. Got it for $98.

Hard to beat Torque Pro for $5 plus $15 (or less) for a Bluetooth OBD2 interface module - assuming you have an android based phone or tablet.

You get the freeze frame stuff, readiness monitor and a nicely configurable display.

Code readers will give you a 50% chance the sensor is bad...if you can understand the sensor code. The Engine computer checkes the entire circuit voltage, not the sensor. So, if the sensor voltage output is low, it could mean the ground has high resistance. It could mean the source has high resistance. It could mean the signal in the wire has high resistance. It could also mean the sensor is bad. Code readers do not show half what a Snap-on Solus pro will show such as live voltage wave forms. I can watch the signal patterns of various sensors. Also, if the signal is erratic ie, the voltage will do a 2 ms spike, a Scanner or DMM will not catch it. A scope will and that spike can cause the ECM to trigger a code.
