So does NY state have specific registration restrictions, codes, etc that will affect how one would register a lifted truck with larger, wider tires? I learned the hard way that CA does have such codes for "passenger vehicles" and would like to avoid any hassles up front by either registering the truck as a "truck" or "recreational vehicle" or whatever. Or know up front that if I take it out I need to be aware of how high and how wide it can be.

This is for my 1997 80, which is pretty high and on 37's (both street AT's and trail MT's). It doesn't stick out too much among the monster trucks fools drive around in southern CA but my wife mentioned from her visit that she noticed an absolute absence of such idiocy in NY.

Looks like plans will move us to the Ithaca area within a couple of months...

Thanks for any input, advice, etc.

I don't think you'll run into those issues is western NY. Down by the city or LI maybe but still unlikely. One benefit to NY is you can go to nearly any service garage to have your truck inspected and like anything else if they think it's cool you'll slide right on through. From all the years I lived or had vehicles registered in NY I never had an issue that was related to lifts or tires. They are mostly concerned with safety items lights, brakes stuff falling off and of course the best one we inherited from Cali smog regulations.

Stay out of Jersey though IYKWIM.

 yeah, that place is squrewy :D I lived in Philly for 5 yrs and thank gawd for that river!!!!

but seriously, yes, we (wife + 2 kids) are looking at being in the Ithaca area by the end of March. She was just there and said "your truck is gonna stick out like the clown-wagon it is...".

They didn't even ask when I registered my truck, no special forms or even a check box that I saw. This is a 60 registered in manhattan, I figure the heart of liberal prius sensibilities. I still need to get it inspected though, so I'll let you know what i find out.
