Greg suggested that we might discuss why November 11 is important and why we should remember the sacrifices made by so many. My comment is that they didn't go off to war thinking that they were going to sacrifice themselves. They went because it was the thing to do at that time and that they expected to return after the war ended. Sadly, many of them didn't return through no choice of their own. Sometimes the Nov 11 ceremonies indicate that those soldiers willingly sacrificed themselves for a worthy cause, which I think is a distortion. Nonetheless, we definitely should remember them and Canada has been a better country that they helped win World Wars 1 & 2 and that led
to an era of better lives for all of us. My father served WW1 in the Royal Navy in 1917 at the age of 14, then later in the Canadian Air Force during WW2 at the age of 35 to age 41. He was proud of his service but lost many of his friends and colleagues. He brought me up with the attitude that war is bad in every way and should never be glorified...

@Scalp what did your dad do in the RN in the first war?

Anyone keen on meeting for dinner before the meeting? Gillnetter, or other choice?

The Vietnamese Pho place I'd thought about ended up not being well rated.
Happy hour is 3-6pm, so we'll aim to be there at 5:30 to catch tail end.

Missed all this, busy day. Plan to be there for the meeting.
