NOOB question about overdrive

So I bought a HZJ-73 and I love it but the manual is in Japanese...
I've tried finding an English translation in specific regard to the over drive, but no luck. There is a red button on the shift column but when I engage it, should there be a light that lets me know the over drive is up and running? When I push it, it doesn't come up or down, just depresses back to where it was and nothing seems to change in regard to RPM's. I know over drive should be off for towing but has better fuel economy when engaged....my ignorance is staggering, even to me. Sorry

Throw up a photo of what it looks like.
Normally it would throw up a light.
The button I believe should be on the gear selector lever.
There is another button on the shroud at the base of the lever which is to manually unlock the "shift lock" mechanism. Its usually red or orange...

That button is to release the lever from park position if I am not mistaken.
