I'm a noob so don't flame me, but just about to install a new manifold gasket and noticed that it has been bent at some stage. is this still ok to install???

I can see light through the two sides of the gasket.

and also, does it matter which side goes on the manifold ??

if that's an exhaust manifold, I suspect you are ok....

if it was a head gasket, I'd toss it and go purchase a Toyota factory one....mostly cause of the additional work to replace if it ends up junk...

I can never remember which way they face tho, usually rely on the directions :D

Obviously it's an exhaust manifold, based on the aluminum shielding material, and as usual I'd say coat both sides with RTV (the red one) and use studs/nuts instead of bolts, torque to 15lbs over recommended and you'll be all set. Also, don't forget to re-torque after a few days to a week just to be on the safe side. Oh and yeah, the gasket is symmetrical so it can go on either way.

I've been running the MAF 6-1 header since October with this method and not a single smidge of leak to be found. Love 'em.
