Hi everyone--been trying to get my '89 toy pickup (4cyl 22re 4x4) to run today, but had no luck. Came across this forum, so thought id see what you guys thought.

So, it wont start tho it will turn over and will run with starter fluid sprayed in it. Replaced the fuel pump, filter, and added a missing gas cap incase that could be causing pressure issues.

No effect

Are the injectors going to be what needs looking at next, or are there other options? I looked up pricing for injectors and they scream expensive...so would like to avoid replacement of those..

Some background--Distributor and timing chain have been replaced in the last few years...tho its been sitting for almost as long.

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

Search. There is lots of info. there may be some links like this in the FAQ.

Check and see if your injectors are pulsing. use a noid light to check. or try using a test light.

The injectors are paired in the harness. This still may be a bad ground problem. What will happen is it will pull a ground back through a different injector.

Check the grounds at the side of the plenum.

EFI fuse??

Thanks guys! I plan to work on it again tomorrow, so after I research these suggestions and try em out i'll let you know how it went.

Actually I searched for hours yesterday before posting. Its just that I dont consider myself knowledgeable enough on engines yet to troubleshoot effectively (even tho ive replaced a timing chain...it was only possible with lots of help).

Thanks again!

My friend, it might be as simple as bad gas. Gas that has sat for two years?? Really not good and you could have mold growing in your tank/in your lines etc-especially since it sounds like you did not have a gas cap on.

I would drain that fuel and try new fuel before you do anything else.
