Mine was out when I bought mine at 194K along with the "pwr" light. I can't stand it when dash lights don't work so I fixed it right a way and like it much better now that it's working. It's dimmer than the others and doesn't bother me at all at night. The "pwr" light, however, is really bright and bothers me a lot at night...
Mine was out when I got it. It it's broke I fix it, that's the way I roll.
Replacement is straightforward, although you will have to wiggle the cluster to get it out. It's a tight fit. I found that I had to tilt the top forward and then pulled the left side out.
1) remove the lower trim beneath the steering wheel.
2) remove the upper trim above the steering wheel.
3) disconnect the wiring harness to the upper trim.
4) remove the cluster trim.
5) unscrew the cluser.
6) disconnect the cluster wiring harness.
7) wiggle the cluster free.
8) compress tabs on center piece.
9) unscrew brown colored bulb sockets and replace.
No "D" here at 118500. It was burnt when I bought the rig at 97K miles, and it's still burnt. Imagine that! I can't say that I miss it, though. If it was as bright as the others, I think I would find it annoying. I'm generally able to figure out I'm in drive without it.
I replaced my "D"......but only because I was replacing the clear plastic cluster face (it was really bothering me looking at my CEL through a haze) after-all you do spend a 3rd of your time in the cockpit looking at your gauges.
