my wife and i were just given a new 2006 Xtrail Bona vista by her family , aparently our 1998 mazda 626 lx was not bling enough for the grand kids to ride around in .

it uses an awd drive system based on the skyline , it switches back into 2 wd ( fwd ) for economy on dry surfaces , pretty much a car and not a truck .

i wish i would of been consulted , i would have liked to pick up somthing different , i was going to trade it on a 4 runner or x terra but wife says grand parrents would be deeply offended , so i am basicaly stuck with it , unless i write it off :D .

i only found out friday night , we were told that we had to bring our 626 into morrey nissan on sat morning i didnt even know what we were getting , i didnt really want another gas guzzler we were planning on buying a used echo next year .

so we had to use our 626 as part of the deal , my father in law wrote a check for the rest .

Doesn't the X-trail have a 3 setting dial that lets you run 2WD, Auto AWD or full time AWD (kind of like a 4runner or Explorer)? Maybe not ideal but you could at least lock it in for snow, etc...

A buddy of mine that spends a lot of time in Costa Rica went wheeling in one, and said it was actually pretty capable- that said I'm sure the non N.American machines are different...

Cheers, A
