Date: 01/19/2009 BLUERIBBON COALITION ACTION ALERT!

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

Nez Perce National Forest Seeks Comments on DEIS Planning

The Nez Perce National Forest (NPNF), located in central Idaho, has announced the release of their Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for their Designated Routes and Areas for Motor Vehicle Use (DRAMVU) planning effort.

The comment period for the DEIS will end on February 26, 2009. The purpose of the comment period is to give the public an opportunity to provide early and meaningful participation on the proposed action prior to the project decision being made.

A full copy of the DEIS is available at Nez Perce National Forest offices and many local libraries, including Grangeville, Elk City, Riggins, Kooskia, Lewiston, Moscow, and Orofino. The DEIS is also available on their website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r1/nezperce/projects/index-dramvu.shtml.

The Forest Service (FS) will host a series of public meetings in late January and early February (see schedule below for dates and places). These meetings will provide an opportunity for participants to review and begin commenting on the DEIS.

The meeting agenda includes a brief presentation and explanation of the DEIS document, maps, and alternatives. Following the presentation, the public will be invited to visit various workstations where employees can help clarify your questions regarding this proposal. Comment forms will be provided should anyone have comments they would like to submit at the meeting.
