In case anyone here was planning on going:

2012 for Committee and Special guests = closed event enough rumors and gossip.

For 2012, Rubithon is a closed event for committee and invitees only. The purpose of this years event will be specifically planning the 25th anniversary Rubithon in 2013.

If you are planning to attend this year, please do NOT! Set your sights on 2013 when we can bring you a fantastic and well planned event.

If you decide to come anyways, be aware there are no event related activities including trail support, meals, bar or raffle. Additionally, I have secured the Springs for my guests and planning purposes only.

I ask that you respect our desires and allow my committee folks, who have worked their jobs tirelessly for years, enjoy a casual trip and allow us to put the plans in action for what should be a phenomenal 25th anniversary event in 2013.

Invitations for 2012 Rubithon planning will be mailed out by end of February.

Additionally, expect new dates.

So 2013 is the time for a big Coastal Cruiser attendance at Rubithon. All you old time Rubithon past attendants need to start planning for it now.
I won't mention any names, but yes I'm looking at you Granite Grinder, Red Reefer, Mud Guppy, Telford, and umm..whom ever else.

40's been there numerous times, time for the 62. Not to mention the drive down in the 62 would be a bit more comfortable, unless I dust off the tandem axle car trailer parked at Kim's. Then I'd have to find a tow vehicle...
If I go I'll be bringing the kids, they'd have a blast.

Sounds like a fun family time. I like the way Steiger did it by including Disneyland...and then maybe add the Baja. I assume if I am to attend this event means my next big addition will need to be lockers?

As well as the mind set that body damage and major part failing is possible. Along with lockers front and rear I would get a 35+ tire. I would say that Rubicon is not for the faint of heart. There are a few tight squeezes with no bypass as well as quite a few off camber sections.

I wanted to do it when I had the 4runner as it was made for that kind of trail. The 80 on the other hand was worth sacrificing the Rubicon for the overall better driving and comfort.

I don't have much of an issue with some mild body damage as long as the trip is worth while. If it is an FSR ICBC may even give a freebie ...if it is a true accident.

Well ya got just over a year to get ready for it. Not sure if the Rubicon is classified as a FSR.

It's a heritage wagon trail originally, not sure how they classify it. Depending on the trail conditions, as sections of it can change quite drastically from year to year, it is possible to do it without body damage, even in an 80.
The couple dings I received while doing the trail were from my flares being ripped off and deforming the sheet metal. If I had of heeded the advice of removing them prior, I probably would have been okay. The only other un flare related ding was totoally avoidable, I just backed into a rock.
You could do it on 33's, and lockers would make things easier of course, but I don't believe it's a requirement.
