Traded my Mercedes for it to my best friend who needed a car more than I did. Sure it's worth about half what the Benz was but hey, what are friends for?

Check out the sweet Marty McFly bumper and nerf bars.

The good:
AC that still has some R12 in it and probably just needs a topping off.
Rebuilt carb (by me)
Sweet anti theft gearshifter. It just falls out if you don't hold it down.

The bad:
Have you seen the picture?
Exhaust leak makes it sound like a lawmower
Rebuilt carb (by me)
Mismatched tires.
Some ancient lift kit that rides like an ancient lift kit.

I can't wait to start working on it.

Awesome, you just need a set of bull horns on the hood and your all set. :hillbilly:

That was a mighty nice gesture you made to your friend!

Add a tripple tube roll bar, some KC lights with the yellow smily and triple chrome shocks front and rear and your good to go.;)

Either way, looks like a great platform for a wheeler.

Nice pick up! What year? I'm assuming since its still carbbed that its an 84 or 85 / 22r motor? meaning its a straight axle and not IFS?
I had an 85, which was my first offroad truck and I fell in love with it... and the whole reason I'm still a big fan of Toyota's and offroading in general...

I'd like to find one too... actually I found an extremely clean low mileage one on CL but the guy wants quite a bit of coinage for it...
(80 something Toyota pick ups and low mileage is almost an oxymoron these days!)

1985 Toyota Pickup Tacoma 4x4 Solid Axle EFI - 124k ORIGINAL MILES!

It's an 85, straight axle. Some crappy lift springs with 3 insanely thick leaves each. It rides like a Peterbilt.

I've been watching that one too. I think he's in dreamland to get a price like that but you never know.

A roll bar with KCs would go well with my mullet. :flipoff2:

That is such a fun platform to build up. Wheeled and built a couple of first gen 4Runners, they are so simple yet effective. Keep us up on the build. ;)

Got the exhaust leak fixed. It helps to have all the nuts holding the downpipe to the manifold. Fixed some miscellaneous things like burned out interior lights, etc.

This week the rest of my parts should show up and I'll start daily driving it. Should beat the hell out of my FJ60 for fuel economy, but damn is it ugly.

Much better without those :hillbilly: nerf bars.

Heater works now but I can hear trickling water from somewhere near the firewall. Leaking heater core maybe?

My first 2 tanks got 18.5mpg. That sure beats my FJ60 that I was daily driving. I just picked up an Elocked third with 5.29s in it. That should take care of not being able to pull 5th gear up the hills. :steer:

An hour commute each way in it is a bit painful though. I should make the :princess: drive it and I'll take the 80. Hmmmm.

It's been a while since I updated it but I've been busy collecting parts and doing general maintenance on it.

So far I've collected a new front axle with longfields, 6 shooters, hydro assist, etc. a set of TG 4" leaves, bilstein 5100s, an ifs rear with 5.29s, an elocked third with 5.29s, a couple top shift tcases to make duals out of, and some recentered H1s.
