After selling my 06 DC 4x4 about 18mo ago I’ve been on the hunt for another one. I found my new one on FB Marketplace listed as a “mechanics special”. She has 236k but has been maintained by Toyota dealerships by all 4 prior owners as confirmed by a carfax prior to going to look at it. On its last visit to the dealer, they advised the front suspension needed to be redone to the tune of $3800 so the guy I got it front decided to sell it rather than spend the money. When I got there to look at it I found it had Icon 2.5 coilovers and Camburg UCAs installed as well as icon 2.0s in the back. Other than some exterior scratches and a leaking radiator, she is in great shape. It also has a set of nice rock sliders on it. The coilovers have all the preload taken out and are in need of serviceand she is on tiny street tires.
I’m planning to have the shocks serviced and setting them up to level the truck out and add some larger tires and new wheels. I also want to find an older style OEM bumper from the 00-02 years and take the plastic one off. I went a bit too far on my last tundra trying to make it a trail truck but I have my 80 for that now. Looking forward to doing a mild build on this one and letting it be my daily driver.

How much did you end up getting it for? I’m trying to get something in the upcoming months to haul our boat and I’m deciding between this type of Tundra or a 03-06 Silverado 2500hd 6.0.

$4200.
How big is your boat? I love these first gens for general truck stuff but it’s not really a great tow rig for anything big in my opinion. I think 3/4 ton truck is probably more suitable if towing is the primary goal. I have a 19’ center console that I tow occasionally but it’s fairly light. I had the same thought about getting a larger truck both for the boat and to potentially pull my 80 on a trailer but then you give up the nimbleness of the first gen for daily driving.

My boat is only 16.5’. Really small. But I need 4WD because a lot of our ramps are either in really bad shape or just always slick. I’ve used my FWD Sienna to pull it on several occasions and it does it just fine but it’s not the right vehicle for it. The only reason I’m also considering the 2500 is because they’re not very expensive (at least not the mint ones) and I can use it for other stuff as well.

Yeah I know the 3/4 ton will tow much easier but considering how light my boat is and I’ve had nothing but Toyotas for the past 20+ years these 1gen Tundras are definitely on my radar. I’m not going super long distances with the boat, most of my fishing spots are 1-2hrs away highway driving (100 miles tops).

Man $4,200 is a steal. I didn’t realize you can find these that cheap. Congrats. This is definitely my favorite generation Tundra.
