Hi folks my name is Jeff . I'm a rookie owner of a locked and stock 80 series. I live in Augusta. Im looking to get involved more with cruisers. As we all know its a disease:bounce: I wanted to get out on the trails and learn the ropes. Wondering what all it would take and where to go.
thanks
jeff

Welcome aboard. We're gonna be at The Gulches in a couple of weeks and Durhamtown Plantation in February, you're more than welcome to tag along.

To learn the ropes you should research the proper equipment to have and then find someone with experience and go wheeling with them. A local club is a great place to start if you can find one more in your neighborhood.

A locked 80 will take you a lot of places but show some caution, just because you can doesn't mean you should in many circumstances. Also, don't go wheeling alone, bad things can and do happen so please make sure you have someone with another rig along to assist.

As far as where to go, you're going to find that folks are a little reluctant to share trails on an open forum. Our sport is very much under attack and posting specific locations (unless they are Public ORV/OHV facilities) typically leads to their demise in a hurry. Please remember to wheel only in LEGAL areas and do your best to represent the wheeling community well.

Beyond that, just keep reading and get to know some folks around you that share the fun.

Hey Tom, I have inlaws in Augusta and get over that way every once in a while. Most of the Georgia Cruisers are located around teh Atlanta area. You might find some folks from Upstate Cruisers a little closer. I can't help you with places to wheel around Augusta.

I am the proud owner of an 80 myself and would be glad to answer any questions you have.

Welcome!

Glad you posted up Jeff. I know there are guys in the Augusta area, like I said in the email, I've received requests a few times so give them a little time to respond. I'll shoot out a few emails and try to get things going over there and see what happens.

In the mean time, meet us at Durhamtown in February for some :steer::steer:

Jeff,

My name is Andy and I have an off road club in Augusta. I started it to be a TLCA Chapter but just didn't have enough TLCA only support, so I opened it up to all makes and models. We are primarily a trail riding club with multiple trips a year from moderate to extreme. We still have quite a few Landcruisers left from the begining though. I personally have three....there is another guy with three, and there are two more FJ40s. We would love to have you come check us out. We meet once a month on the first Tues at 6:30pm at Somewhere In Augusta Restaurant. Give me a call at 706-306-4575 so we can talk about your new addiction (I warn you...we will only make it worse : )

-Andy

Thanks Andy--

Jeff--We're all over, you just gotta throw out a smoke signal or two.

The Gulches is only 75 miles from Augusta and we're going this weekend. Durhamtown is on Feb. 20 and both you guys should try to make the trip(s).

I appreciate the invite, my club frequents The Gulches and River Rock, but we are also planning a big trip to Windrock/Coal Creek mid June. There may be a possibility for us to get together there as well. We are going to have a large cabin that sleeps 40. I actually came to GA Cruiser meetings for about 6 months, that was 5 or 6 years ago. I would make the drive to ATL on the first Tues of every month. That is why I decided to start my own club here in Nov 2006.

Cool, that's quite a drive for a Cruiser meeting and I applaud your dedication. That was way BT (Before Ted, that's me) though. :flipoff2:

A cabin that sleeps 40, that sounds like a dorm to me. you guys can do your own panty raid.:eek:

June 7th-13th is GSMTR and is one of the biggest Toyota events in the southeast. It's being held at Golden Mountain Park located in Sparta, Tennessee. We're planning to attend as a club like we do every year so get one of your Yota's ready to wheel!

We always have an open seat so you can always park your rig and catch a ride, this is a great way to get your feet wet. (pun intended)

Besides, with the amount of rain we've had this yer you might as well get used to it.

Catching a ride possible maybe checkin with the :princess: More of a monetary issue but we do have the time. The soul wants to go but the brains sayin no.
Is anyone coming up from this way? My goal is the GSMTR with the 80. :meh:

Well not to make excuses for my brain but i've had a lot of fun lately!!! Don't you worry I do drive a Cruiser for a reason. She gets dirty. Big wish :find a new to me 40 and take my 'ol man to the GSMTR. Might have to pimp the 80. Since my formative years I always wanted to be there!

I've been to 4 GSMTRs when they were at Tellico and I have enjoyed them all (as long as Coyboy does the raffle, ha). I also like the Dixie Run in the Fall, now held at Golden Mtn as well. Golden Mtn has turned out to be a great park for its size. Our club has made the Dixie Run the annual fall ride destination.

yep

Cool Andy look forward to meeting you all on the 2nd . My dads gettin up there so lookin to bring him out for some fun . Finally got him turning wrenches with the 80!!!:hillbilly:

neglected PM .Got her cheap steady getting her up to snuff. I guess what you'd call a mild restoration/rescue. It came from New Jersey salt crusted and neglected. Also my d/d so a work in progress. Give her time she will roll with the big dogs.
