Mars, where do you live??? I'm in the Lake Murray, La mesa area...

I'm living in Fashon Valley at the moment. I work in Lakeside. Got any recommendations ChuckB? And do you have a recommended mechanic who knows the 2F pretty well? Or...builds custom bullbars/racks in the area?

I took a trip to the book store and got some pretty solid advice from a guy who wheels out at Anza-Burego all the time. Pointed me to some good books and maps of the area, looks like a good place to start. Funny...the people at Barnes & Noble had no clue where to find any books on backroads...two workers said they had nothing available.

I'm headed to Joshua Tree this weekend. Looking at the map, there's several 4x roads to poke around on, anybody spend time out there?

Side note...looks like the PO bumped something with the front passenger side. I managed to pull the bumper nearly back straight with the help of my 400lb shop manager..heh.

Mars,

Sweet we aren't that far apart. I know there's shop...(going to grab last issue of toyota trails) West Escondido Auto and Transmission, that is the shop that Beach N Toys the local club uses. I haven't dealt with them yet... I plan on joining the club though too.

I have been out to Anza once in my buddies heep, it was pretty sweet.

I am also stationed in 29 Palms which is about 10 mins from Joshua Tree, but I haven't had a chance to get out there yet either. I have seen the TTORA going out there alot too!!

how would I know if my fan clutch is Bad? and how do I fix it?

The 15mpg was a pleasant suprise...driving the 200mi home from where I bought it, I got 10mpg on the freeway, engine making a TON of fan noise. Fixed a siezed fan clutch, and I've had 3 tanks in the 14-15mpg range...stoked about that.

Thanks[/QUOTE]

I have never seen my fan not spin, ever even in 20 deg. Is it supposed to kick in and out like a tT-stat?
thanks

To tell you the truth I'm not sure. Mine was seized, as in it was spinning at full engine speed all the time. At highway speeds it was making a ton of whurring noise, like hard to hold a conversation in the cab kind of noise. When a fan clutch works correctly, it should slow itself down if the engine is warm enough, at the higher RPM's. I don't think the fan ever completely stops spinning though.
