New or Rebuilt OEM Alternator?

There is no way to replace the brushes on a 3fe alt???

Yes you can but, you soldering skills have to be up to par. Unsoldering and soldering more than 10 connections.
This includes unsoldering the voltage regulator and rectifier from the stator just to get to the brushes that also need to be soldered in. No smalls screws here....

AES uses only NipponD parts on Nippon alts. Delco parts on delcos etc...

Many different companies and many different ways to cut corners. Find a shop that does not cut corners.

I agree on the Toyota reman, unless you have a good electrical shop in town. I ran a ford F350 with the 7.3 diesel at work that when you replaced the alternator, you had to clock the case 180 degrees to install it. As I took apart the case to install the 5 or 6 alternators I put in it, I was shocked at what little they did to rebuild. Most only had new brushes, not even new bearings. We got such a smoking deal from NAPA that it wasn't worth the cost to get a better one, though. I got to where I kept a spare all ready to go in the toolbox with me, so I was never stranded.

...I know this thread is from '08.

My alternator just died on me this afternoon. I sent a PM to cruiserdan to see about a rebuilt Toyota OEM alternator? While I'm waiting for him to reply what is a rebuilt Toyota alternator?

I've searched online and all I was able to find are Beck/Arnley, Denso, Remy ACDelco re-manned alternators but they state they use OE comparable parts for the rebuild. I can't find any specific Toyota rebuilt alternator using Toyota parts for the rebuild.

A Toy reman will be like new. It will have all original parts. I would use it without question. My FJ60 has a Toy reman alternator installed more than 50k and 6 years ago (before I got the truck).

I would avoid a Napa Reman if you have the choice.

I've been running a Toyota Reman'd unit for about six months now, no problems so far.

For the record, don't get aftermarket alternators, not even Napa. The last alternator I ran didn't even last a year. And it was "brand new".

AKAIK: If you get one from Dan/Onur/Sam etc., it should be a core truly rebuilt with OEM parts, rather than one rebuilt with "OEM comparable" parts.

I contacted Dan (cruiserdan) and Onur (beno). I'm waiting to hear back from Dan on a price. I haven't heard back from Onur yet? Do you happen to know Sam's user name? I checked the vendors market tab but I don't know who's who.

I need to get the alternator ordered tomorrow and so far I don't have anything lined up yet.

It's about $215 I ordered one from him last week. You may want to also order the pigtail connection that goes into the alt. mine was brittle and broke while taking it out.

Sounds good, thanks!

He and Onur work at the same place now (in ATL).

Oh ok, I'll just wait to hear back from Onur then.

Thanks!

Incorrect.

Sam is at a different location and we are no longer working together unfortunately.

Sam is at Toyota South and I am at Nalley Toyota Stonecrest.

Also, it is the weekend. I am not working this weekend, Sam is not working this weekend either.

Dan was will be back in the office on Monday.

We do need some of our alone time away from MUD. ;)

Gotcha.

Disregard my PM...I just ordered through Sewell tonight. I need my order to go out tomorrow and I'll be busy with family that's in from out of town and won't have time to PM back and forth tomorrow.

I think only bearings, brushes, and regulator go bad?? I had to replace a bearing as it was noisy, not sure which one so I just did both. Good as new again after replacing brushes of course.
