My 350Z shares a platform with the Infinite FX SUV. The up side is that it is ultra stiff and over built for the 350Z (and a little heavier than it might need to be) If you are getting a vehicle that is sharing a platform you get the best bang for the buck if you are on the lower end of the $$ sharing. What will happen with the LC/LX is that you will get a Sequoia with some fancier parts and softer leather for a bunch more $$$. Kind of like the 4runner/GX470 platform sharing, you can get all of the stuff that is important (unless you are into luxury and status) in the 4runner for a whole lot less than the GX470. If they do share this platform between the Sequoia/Tundra/Landcruiser/LX470 you might as well buy the Sequoia or the Tundra and then build it like you want it. JMHO
that magazine may be correct for the rest of the world but when i was at a show in japan they said the lx will be based of the seqouia and the land cr will still be from japan the cost factor for the lx and the studies showing minor off roading for owners of the lx in the us tells them they dont need the full 4x4 flagship anymore for the lx. i dont have to tell any one on this forum that the lc is the 4x4 that you will find any where in the world; the lx had a good run but they are looking for cost savings as well as improved gas milage for the lx and the sequoia can give it to them for one its made in the us

Speaking of platform sharing (getting off topic), I received a mag on the new hilux-surf from my in-laws. In there, there's an interview/discussion from the design team. Their main concern was what kind of frame to use. They considered the monocoque (like the Pathfinder), but opted for the tried-and-true ladder frame for improved off-roadability. Double wishbone was chosen up front for better ride on the road (no surprise). It doesn't say they considered indep. rear suspension. One reason for the design was, they wanted to reuse as many parts as possible from the new Prado platform. Their main market seems to be the US, as surf sales in Japan have been much slower than Prado sales, maybe because the Prado is slightly larger inside and is only $1K more than the surf. The engines available here are much more powerful. There, they get a 2.7L V6 (150hp), the 3.4L V6 (180hp), or the 3.0L I-4 turbo diesel (same horses as the 3.4V6, but 20% more torque). Ditto w/ the Prado platform, and both rigs are only part-time 4WD, but have locking center torsion diffs like the rigs here. No mention of 4.7L V8s or full-time 4WD. Makes me wonder if the 3.0L I-4 TD will be offered once ultra-low sulfur diesel is required in mid '06. 180 horses is certainly enough to move it, and the fuel economy is around 10mpg better than the 4.0L V6 or 4.7L V8.
