Figure I'll start a new thread instead of Dave's info on the new bumper with a dual jerry can swingout being buried in a different thread.

Heard back from Kaymar Australia on my question of whether the new dual jerry can swingout would fit on older bumers with a tire swingout.

Here's the info I posted on Portal:

Well - my computer crashed completely as I was typing news here. 4+ hours and I'm back up and running minus any Outlook emails since my last back up of that system on 6.08 - shiat. Oh well.

One email lost was the response from Kaymar I received today. Basically they said IF the horizontal bar on the existing swingout (tire carrier) was no more than 270mm (maybe 370mm) then the dual jerry can carrier would fit. Well that horizontal bar is just under 26" or about 660mm. Wow! No way that dual jerry can carrier will fit on older Kaymar bumpers with the tire swingout!

There you go - no way unless you don't have a tire swingout and just want a dual jerry can swing out.

One thing I didn't mention on portal was that MAF s/b receiving their shipment of the new stuff in April and would be able to answer any questions then.

That's interesting because i thought all the arms were the same length, its where they positioned the "add-ons" that mattered. In other words, my single tire carrier and gerry can arms were identical to my dual swing out tire carriers... it was just where they decided to position the tires that changed on the arm.

well, that the new dual can would not fit with the old single tire swingout was pretty likely, I thought, unless they'd put one can way out there.
I thought you were going to ask about the spindles / pivots. Did they say those are compatible?

x2.

I was considering buying a tire carrier for the DS, but have the full length carrier on the PS. I was pretty sure I could just cut off the vertical tire carrier assembly and re-weld it closer to the spindle and it would work fine. As far as I know, the latches all mount to the same location on the bumper regardless of the swingout you get.

What I dont understand is why they dont make a 3 jerry can holder by rotating the cans 90 degrees like all the other bumper manufacturers? I thought the original design with one can capacity was close to useless. The two can design is a step in the right direction, but why not three? It would be easy to do IMO.

What can I say - that's what Sales at Kaymar said in the email guys...an the email is buried in computer crash hell so I can't quote it directly - I just know I took the info they gave me, walked out to the cruiser, measured the arm, converted it to mm and went - HOLY SHIAT - that'll never fit!

Wait for them to show up at MAF and ask again.

I would think that if you have 3 cans, they have to be put "perpendicular" to the rear and so stick out much more, which means they have to be much higher and in the field of vision if you don't want to hit them.

Yeah , i agree... 3 cans would be optimum for the space thats there. And as far as it sticking out further.. shoot what's 3-5" if you turn them the other way.

This had been my idea all along, but even a single carrier new is pricey and I've never seen a DS jerry can swing out come on the market used all by itself, always with a bumper.

Cut the single off and have someone fab a triple like Hanna's. Oh well...

for the cost of a can carrier, you could also get a nice roof rack of sorts and stick a bunch of stuff (cans) up there if you wish.

If I ever get myself a welder (dreamin' about it...) I'm modding my single can carrier though for all sorts of goodies... starting with a bbq / keg holder... :D

Well, at this point a couple of holders on the trailer is where I'm headed - two for gas, two for water.
