Watch out for potentially there being Asbestos in the Linoleum.

flooring is 2 yrs old- no asbestos.

I just put up my home depot hood this last weekend. Still futsing with the chimney. Wish my wife would have gone with the microwave over stove like you have now.

I can't use a over the range microwave. My stove cooks 'em. I've got four 15.5k BTU burners and when cooking with even two of them near high my current over the stove microwave automatically turns on it's fan because it gets too hot.

Actually, I'm in the process of deciding if I want to raise the two cabinets over the range (that the microwave is attached to) by six inches to give me some more clearance between the range top and hood.

doc,
if the linoleum is flat and the extra height isnt an issue, just leave it. makes a great substrate for the wood. pulling it up could give you way more work..especially if clumps are left or the glue pulls up the substrate under it.

you can raise the cabinets. or get rid of them entirely. but the hood will work better closer to the range top. unless you have a huge fan outside.

Yeah- good point.

I need to dry fit it and see where the lip of the hood falls. I don't want to hit my head on it when checking on pots (if it's too low).

But yeah- I don't want the extra hassle of moving the cabinet if I don't have to.

I put a link to pics in the first post, I can't figure out how to export them out of where they are.

So, I've pretty much decided against bamboo for the kitchen. I leaning more towards cork at this point.

Oh- and the thermostat took a crap last night. It's mid 90's here and hot in the house. Yes, I already tried replacing the batteries. So- I'm headed to the depot to buy a new thermostat.

Oh, the fine benefits of owning a new home..;p

Hope it's just the stat.;)

Well, it's up and running again.

Here's the deal- it's a crappy thermostat. The batteries died, and sent the unit haywire. Now, it will run off of a power line from the furnace, or on batteries alone, but not if you have both connected.

I think it's time to upgrade the t-stat anyway. At least now ('cause it's running) I can do the swap in a cool house instead of a hot one.

sadly, even if you have a monster fan outside, the proper height is probably about eye level for best results. ask me how i know. banged my head more times than i can tell you.
