I think a couple of the new Heeps have Mercedes CRD diesels in them. I want the engine but not the Heep...:frown:

Is that the VM Motori in the Liberties? I thought VM made good motors.... perhaps they blew it in the Liberty. I liked the idea of a small diesel in a small SUV but like GTS I couldnt stand the Jeep part of the equation.

My Ram is bad enough (being a domestic and all) the only reason I bought it was because of the Cummins. Best of the worst I guess. I must admit I'm amazed how well it pulls 6 tons though. 80kph up the Malahat with 1100 on the pyro.... unreal.

I am with you on the cummins things. I like wants under the good.
After seeing my buddy replace the head gaskets in his abused and used dirty Max I would be skeptical to get one. I think it was the bad previous owner who drove it like an idiot.
But I would still do the dirty max thing I figure.

Yes it was a vm matori, I don't know what his big beef with his liberty is really, don't know if it's even given him problems. I just think he hates the thing around the engine they call a vehicle.

Too bad I dislike Chrysler so much. I wonder if the 3.0 diesel will be a Mercedes engine? Maybe this will motivate Toyota to give us the D-4D diesel Hilux? (check Toyota UK website to see what we are missing in North America)

If they do it right and the power/economy advantages get noticed maybe - just maybe-- other manufactures will start producing 3.0 liter diesels too. As stated above - In most of the rest of the world turbo/intercooled diesels in 3.0 -3.5 displacement range are very popular.
One issue is that diesel fuel costs more than gas in the US, which reduces some of the potential economy.

Agreed. When i briefly looked into the Liberty diesels (took about 10 min. to decide I didn't want one) I seem to recall the diesels fetched quite a bit more than the gassers and were quite rare. I think they dropped the diesels early because of the emissions regulations added in early 2007 (ish). Still a neat little SUV for the grocery getter type people.

As for Diesel costing more than gas..... I know how it feels, we all do, granted not as bad as Europe but still a "bend over and take it" from the oil companies.

About three weeks ago the price of reg. gas was on par with diesel, I avoided filling up that weekend but if i had I bet there would have been some winging at the ol' gas pumps.
