A few months ago I bought a project/DD 1985 pickup 4wd with factory 22re. Been stalking the forums and figured I would join up and get in on the action.
As far as the build goes, its a mystery to me. I have no specs on suspension cause the guy I boughtbit from claimed it all to be "custom" like most folks do though he did know a thing or two about Toyotas. I paid $3500 for this yellow jewel and its been good to me since day one.

-So we have some sort of lift???
-BDS shocks (I think) that ride horrible
-Stock push pull steering
-No body armor
-33x12.5x15 bfg t/a KO's
-Came factory with 22re but I think it has a junkyard motor in it (paint pen writing on valve cover) 186,XXX on the dash
-auto transmission (a340f I believe)
-Manual valve body
-open diffs
-... Various little things I'm sure i forgot

I work for the railroad so I get very little time at home. Wheeling and wrenching aren't common for me at the time so for now I just want the drivability and reliability that this thing is known for. This is my second Toyota (2009 Tacoma 2wd 5 lug) and this thing is a blast to drive around and the looks from innocent bystanders never gets old.
In the last 2 months I've replaced the thermostat and the o2 sensor and will be changing all fluids when I find the time.
I'll post more when I think of it but until then, thanks for adding me to the group!

Welcome. Yes, they're not that tall from the factory. Some sort of lift. Horrible ride is probably a function of the lift. With the auto and 33" tires, it must really be a dog.

If those are 33s that looks like quite a lot of lift. If they shackled the lift ride kinda sucks, if you're looking for driving and reliability you could go down to 31s and lower the truck back down and have some sort of ride comfort. Best to sort out the little bugs first though.

Its got stock shackles at the moment. Once I get around to replacing the steering I will get 35's and Probly go to a 2"-3" over stock greasable shackle just to get rid of the 30 year old factory ones.

The ride doesn't bother me too much since my drive to work is 15 minutes every day and I'd rather the ground clearance then the on road ride. I do plan on going offroad and wheeling so I'm just trying to build a happy medium of both places.

Nice, yes it has a bit of a lift if its got 33's
