Hi All,

Just an intro post. I have a 2025 LC250 that has a fair amount of mods and just bought a 1992 FJ80 with 250k miles as a fix up project and beat around/hunting truck. I make my living as a hunting and fishing consultant and specialize in international destinations. I fell in love with LC’s in Africa many years ago and finally am an owner and loving it. I look forward to learning from all of you. Cheers.

How does your 80 compare to your Prado? Is your experience in Africa with Prados as well? What made you go with a 3FE instead of the 1FZ?

Most of my experience in Africa is with 70 series, and I so wish I could have one. See pics. My 80 is actually being shipped from FL today so I can’t give a comparison yet. I love my 250 so far and expect it to be my daily driver and more of a capable very nice ride, where I hope the 80 is my workhorse but won’t be used all that much but I’ll drive it some each week for fun. I bought the 3FE because I found one in decent shape for a really good deal and hadn’t found a 1FZ for such a deal. I am sure I would rather have the latter, but this is going to be a fun project for me and my son, and after writing a check for the 250 earlier this year, I just wasn’t ready to spend a bunch on the initial project buy. I know, I’ll end up spending plenty on it, but it isn’t it is, and I’ll live and learn as I go.

cool pics!

What is the fish in your avatar?

Nice to meet you! cool experiences in Africa!!

I have a 2025 GX550 Premium+ and looking to upgrade my wheels/tires - any details on what rims and tire size you're running? any lift to accommodate?

I am using the factory LC wheels. +60 offset I think. I have a 2.5” Wescott collar to lift it up for clearance and 285/75/r18 duratracs.
I tried going to +35 for a wider stance but rubbed the front bumper. I think maybe with wider wheels and a more rounded tire, it would have cleared.

Welcome to the 250 Land Cruiser group
Be prepared to have a few 200 series oligarchs (USA big daddy’s) try to downplay the 250 landcruser lol, they think the Prado isn’t a “Land Cruiser” think the 200 series is the Landcruiser paradigm with its massive HP 😂 because Landcruiser is all about Luxury and Horse Power right ?

The 80 series group is totally different, they are a helpful community of Land-cruiser owners who respect and help other LC owners without having “Gatekeeper Syndrome”like the USA 200 series big daddy’s.
I bought my LC250 sold My 97 80 series. I don’t miss my 80 series, however I do miss being part of the 80 series community here on MUD.

I came "down" from an LC200 to a GX550 (Prado) to enjoy the twin-turbo v6, 50% increase in fuel economy, a more realistic CarPlay experience and some better safety/cruise features.

I used to tow regularly 5000 lbs+ (horses) and now sometimes tow 2500+ (camper) so for me the V6-TwinTurbo was a better option than the LC Hybrid.

sure I could buy an LX600 but for north of $110K - the math didn't close for me. Sure I notice the "light-duty" Prado stuff, but I have a 99-100 Series when I need "heavy-duty" support!
