New Car shopping Toyota Venza AWD vs Subaru Impreza 5 Door

My wife 9 year old Nissan X-trail with just over 100,000 kms is getting to the age where its needing little repairs every other month or two now we just spent $1300 and now it seams like it needs a new exhaust plus i need to replace the winter tires and also the summers ! eek ! I suggested to my equally as cheap as i am A new vehicle and she agreed , i was hoping to get her a cheap little car but she's insisting on AWD and SUV/Wagon , in fact she's been ravin about the Volvo V60 AWD but there is now way in hell I am making THAT payment ! there are a bunch of 2015's left over and there seam some decent prices these two cars aren't exactly equals but I like both of them going out to test drive them later ! if you have thoughts on either or a suggestion let me know. Haha - i am slightly concerned about millage - we already have a 1991 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 , and I have a 1998 Corolla I bought myself for commuting , its her wish to have a suv/wagon and AWD so I'm stepping into make sure I end up with something that comes in at less than 11.0 L per 100kms combined. I tried to convince her a quad cab tacoma but she would NOT go for it.

Parts are less expensive than Toyota - build quality about 95% of Toyota.
Equal length axles - no torque steer. Flat 4 - lighter crankshaft - low center of gravity
All Subaru's are 4WD with center diff - designed from the ground up as all-wheel drive - no add-on to Front wheel drive base vehicle like some others out there
Loyal customer following.
The only thing that stops it in snow is ... body clearance.

Volvo V60 AWD is a deluxe rig - no doubt - with a premium price!

The Impreza is made in Japan. Outback's have been assembled in Michigan since 1995. Engines come from Japan I would think. Toyota actually owns Subaru. When I made my cheques out for payment, they were made to Toyota Canada.

I have an '11 Outback as well, 165,000km and the only issue was the blue-tooth mic crapped out, but I don't use it anyway. Just oil changes and regular service. The factory front brakes lasted 4 years and 154k!

The Venza space behind the seats is smaller than the Outback or Jetta/Golf wagon.

The Subaru is the biggest of the fuel efficient AWD wagons on the road.

170HP out of the 2.5l four is loads of power for me.

Test drove the Mitsubishi RVR AWC , not all that impressed how ever they have a number of 2015's left they want to clear out they are offering winter tire and wheel package , Yokohama winters on steels rims with TPMS , 0% for 60 moths - no doc fees , 10 year powertrain 160,000 kms 5 year 100,000 kms bumper to bumper and thru the dealer lifetime engine warranty.

after that we went and checked out the Subaru , honestly I had a smile on my face it was pouring as we went up Boundary stop on the hill at the light at hastings the light turned green and the car beside us was spinning as we accelerated up the hill we went down to mcvill and back onto the freeway and i attempted to get it to loose control but was unable to it was a much nicer to drive car and the back seat is Cavernous HUGE ! but the rear hatch suffers and is tiny . if had to pick one now id lean towards the Mitsubishi for the warranty.

If I was in the market for a new vehicle these days, I'd consider looking at what Kia/Hyundia offer these days. They have come along way since "the pony" and are from what I have read, pretty damn good these days. Offering a lot more in options than their competitors along with lifetiome oil changes I think to.

I have a older model Subaru Forester and a Land Cruiser (FJ60).

The Subaru is awesome. The boxer engine is so nice. Doesn't have the torque at idle like the LC of course, and they are completely different cars, but it is a peppy car with a great suspension and gets 2x the mileage as the LC guzzler. It does great in the snow and ice. Better than the old LC.

I rarely drive the LC any more.

It's true. Once you drive a Subaru for a length of time, you end up loving it.

If I lost both my cars (like in a fire or something), I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Subaru again. The LC?... i doubt I buy another one.

Yeah wife got her '05 Forester new. Great Car full stop. I think she will get buried in it. She did the Alcan highway and we have been to Grand Canyon in it no issues. I would boy another Subaru as well and likely not replace the HDJ with same if I had to...

In all seriousness though, I like Subarus. My mom bought a Forrester 2 years ago it has about 50k on it now. Much faster than an my 61 and about twice as far per gallon. Not very good quality control on little stuff is the only complaint. It has required warranty work for a non functioning seat belt retractor, temp control knob, and some other stuff I can't remember. No major issues though.
It also has a screen that shows you instantaneous fuel economy. Whenever I'm having fun it drops down to like 5 and I feel like the car is judging me.

In the fall of 2013 Leanne and I test drove on the same day a Subaru Forester, Mit RVR, Toyota RAV, Honda CRV, Mazda CX7. As a Toyota guy I was really hoping the RAV would come out on top. We both agreed the Subaru was the clear winner on the test drive. She got the 2.5L with CVT. When I drive it the on board computer recalculates after a while to below 10.0L combined and as Leannes daily driver it calculates above 10.0/100. Just regular service thus far.

We bought a 2008 Forester X new off the lot in Penticton, it's been a fantastic car.
It was the last of the wagon body type, ej25, awd, lots of room for kids, groceries, dog, stuff.
It has 98,000km now and if it ever kicks the bucket we'll probably upgrade to an outback.

My wife has the toyota Venza AWD four cylinder, I like it and has not caused us a problem in 100K, no timing belt and just changed out rear brakes. She loves it, i have a soft spot for the sporty little subi,they are nimble and quick, more sporty...

Overall, I would say the Venza is more luxury bigger car while the subaru is sporty quick and well put together smaller car, tie breaker would be your preference.
