I'm glad you guys got your problems fixed! My problem is still not resolved. I tried the paper clip trick and finally got cdl light to come on in the dash. I trtied the paper clip on cdl actuator and I can hear it trying to work but it won't lock in. I'm assuming my actuator must be bad/stuck. When I get time I will lower transfer case and check it out. If it's bad does anyone know what one costs?

Your problem is what I was wondering about.

You are sure you have eliminated the switch?
I believe you can rebuild the actuator instead of buying a new one in most circumstances, according to what i researched in recent days.
I would be hesitant before going that far.
Then again I don't know what all you have done.

You said you hear the actuator trying to work, how are you not sure that it is engaging? When I looked at mine I could barely hear anything.

You mentioned you did the circle test in Low. I am assuming they are not binding is that correct?

are in florida btw?

They are not binding. It shifts to low range but diffs won't lock. When I shift to low with motor not running but switch on I can hear something trying to engage at transfer case. I have not tested the dash switch. I just assumed if something was trying to engage at the transfer case the switch was good. Bulb in dash is good but does not come on unless I use paper clip. Thanks for any advice you can give

Well sorry to hear that its not binding. I know the the relay in the dash creates a clicking sound while trying to engage.
I suppose it could be the worm gears could a bit on the stuck side. I was able to find a used actuator and replace it so I have no experience in rebuilding but slee's is a great resource which you most likely have already seen but here is a link I used to locate my problem

Slee - Fixing Diff Lock Actuator (Toyota 80 Series Land Cruiser)

good luck and at least you know it can be fixed! if that's any help.

Try pulling the 4low indicator switch assembly from the side of transfer case and taking it over to the work bench and pushing the contact in and out many times. Just because you don't have the light doesn't mean you aren't locked in 4low. The sensor gets gummed up and won't tell the computer you are in 4low so the fronts and rears can't lock. Alternatively, you can just work the 4low lever back and forth to achieve the same effect.

I Could be wrong on this but from my experience but even when the CDL sensor is gummed up it will still lock the front but the ABS light and DIFF Lock light do not light up. just my experience on mine and my buddies lc80's.

He doesn't bind on 8's but I would say those sensors are what I would try and eliminate first.

What I would try next is take out sensor and put a meter on it and push in the ball and see you if you get resistance. That will eliminate it right there. If you get resistance then its the in the drive train. If not then you can use ketchup, carb cleaner or even put it in a pressure cooker to get that sensor working again.

Don't lose hope man, you'll get it fixed.

Thanks for all your help guys. I finally broke down and pulled CDL ACTUATOR out and it was the problem. I am searching for a used one. Thanks again and happy trail riding!!

hey had that prob in my truck too. It was another pavement beater. I flushed the diffs put in new fluid yuk cant believe what a soccer mom will neglect . Locked it down drove around in circles the front broke first but the rear was a bugger. I just had to take it loose a clean it a bit then it worked fine still havent set her up for wheeling but try to cycle the lockers regularly
