i had a 2001 LR disco II and traded it for my 100... haven't looked back... i love the looks of the LR but the LC is a much much better vehicle... zero service except for the 90K service... my disco caught on fire due to batter slipping in the mount. that was all it took.. first decent LC i say i got and i love it to death.

Don't buy the LR3.

I owned a 2001 LC, still own a 99 LX470 and 93 Land Cruiser

I still have a 2004 Range Rover, had a 2000 Range Rover, a 95 and a 94 as well.

I get the LR3 as a loaner all the time. I not only cannot stand them, but they are not built as nice as the LC. The Range Rover is not built as solidly as the Land Cruiser, and the Range is better than the LR3.

The LR3 is a very capable off road vehicle, however if you are going to do some light mods, the Land Cruiser should be able to keep up with the LR3, if not better* (Subject to mods/accessories)

I love Land Rovers (in general), except as soon as the Range Rover warranty is up, I'm done and I will be buying a new Land Cruiser again. I just am done with the reliability issues. (I have even had a loaner LR3 break down on me)

Everybody loves AHC.....right up until it breaks and if no longer under warranty, it's very cost prohibitive to replace....on any vehicle. It appears that my next Land Cruiser will have AHC thanks to Mr. Toyota, but when it goes sideways.....and it always does....shocks and springs will go on.

I have also enjoyed the looks and "posh" of the RR and also the "off road" reputation. When I was trading in my 97 4runner, I was looking at LC or RR. Did my research, and after having a toyota and then reading about "reliability" of the RR, I felt it wan't worth the "posh" to get the RR. So I got my 2000LC. I have had it since 2003 and now have 111k and LC feels stronger than ever. So I always check out RR when I see them on the road, but love my LC daily. So of course, my vote is the LC. As for year, I would go 2000 or after, thanks.

Not sure if he bought his 07 or not but I own one. went from a 3 series to the 07 LC and haven't regretted a minute of drive time... well I do miss the 3 once in a while but love the LC.

On to a little more objectivity, I bought a dealer owned demo driven by the owner so it came with everything except for the Rear DVD.
- The interior is very comfortable but it does look aged. They've swapped manual controls with more electronics but by the arrangement and ergonomics you can see that it wasn't designed with the electronics in mind. That being said, everything works as designed. I'm just fearful of the integrated Nav, DVD, and climate control panel quitting on me - wish they had the climate controls duplicated.
- The rear seats are completely removable, i typically have them folded up rather than removed, haven't seen much of an impact on mileage.
- I typically get 13+ in city driving and 17+ on hwy. I've seen 19+ on hwy when I've stayed under 70mph.
- I don't have any mods on it yet, will give it a few more years before starting that, the off roading is being handled by my scarpas and komperdells for now :)
- Haven't had any issues with the AHC yet, I am planning to get the extended warranty before I'm out of the warranty period.
- I too was looking at the LR3 but decided against after reading about the electronic gremlins and reliability issues. Still think they have the go-anywhere ability though - I'm not comparing them to the LC in off-roading in any case. just a general statement.
