New 80 Series

Hey everyone! I’ve been obsessed with the 80 Series for the past two years, and I finally pulled the trigger and got my hands on one, it’s a 1996 LX450 sitting right around 200k miles.

According to carfax I’m the 4th owner and it’s been maintained at a local Toyota dealership.

As the pics show, she’s no show car. The less said about the interior (cracked dash pad, center console, seats are a mess) the better. But she’s a start, and that’s all I wanted. I love the aesthetic and utilitarian-ness the vehicle provides. This is a third vehicle for us, we’re very fortunate, and I don’t want to do anything outrageous with her. So a slow build is fine by me.

I’m no wiz mechanic, but I’ve semi-wrenched on a 200k+ mile 2007 Jeep Liberty (believe it or not, my daily driver) so I’m no stranger to keeping heaps on the road (joke, joke, it’s a joke). But no joke, as silly as it may logically be (as my fiancé keeps reminding me) I can’t wait to slowly restore this old girl to her former glory.

Having maintenance records is a big plus. What do they say, and how much oil does it leak? There's some misinformation posted above. Your 80 does not have a timing belt and the transmission is the A343F.

Congrats on the ’96 LX450 — 200k with dealer history is a solid starting point even if the interior’s tired. Early priorities that pay off: cooling system (rad, hoses, thermostat), timing belt/water pump if not documented, knuckle/swivel seals + repack, and a careful look at the A442F service history. Interior plastics can wait; leaks and steering play shouldn’t. Take your time sorting it and the truck will spoil you.

If you’re going to pimp your shop on everyone’s posting atleast become a supporting member/vendor. Maybe try an introduction thread instead of posting your specialty skills on others posts. Just my opinion but seems like bad etiquette, if you want to be helpful that’s one thing but if your looking to drum up business then posting on others posts is not cool.
