I just ordered the double tonight. I'm not sure if I am more excited about these or the radiator I ordered.

Thanks for the order. It will be shipped out this morning.

The resin should be sandable, we sanded down those lures from a very rough finish (80 grit) to the gloss finish (400+ grit) you may run into issues in concave corners, but if you coat or paint them it should not be too noticeable of even at all

I received my cup holders today and installed them immediately. Man, they look great. It's supposed to be over a hundred tomorrow but I think I'll make up a pot of coffee in the morning just because I have a place to put my coffee cup!

I'm glad you liked it. thanks for the feedback. Hopefully I will be able to get back to making these sometime soon.

I'm trying to narrow down my options right now. When I put this project on hold I had 4 design options JUST for the FJ40 font. If I offer these in black/white and black/silver then that doubles my options. If I do the same for the modern FJ font then I now have 16 options. I still need to make them so they can fit on the Landcruiser and LX grilles which doubles those 16 designs to 32. That just can't happen. That would make me go crazy. I need to narrow it down to 4 options. Meaning; I need to finish up my designs then start a "poll" thread to narrow my FJ40 and my modern FJ font down to one (most popular) design. I will then make that design in black/white and black/silver for the LX and Yota. If I have one option in the FJ 40 and 1 option in the modern FJ font and then offer them in two colors, I would have 4 options. Once I make them both for the LX and Yota then I am at 8 different options. That is PLENTY of headache for me and I just can't take it any further. At this point I just need to wrap up the final touches and get a poll going.

Why would you even make a Toyota grille for a Lexus? Or a Lexus grille for a Toyota? Didn't the pre-95 trucks already say 'Toyota' on the grille anyway? And why all the different colors? They got this stuff now called 'paint' and it lets you change colors if you are ungrateful enough to not like the color of something somebody worked hard at making for you. I use it all the time.

For the late model grilles only- Single 40 font 'Toyota' white on black, single FJ font 'Toyota' white on black, and one Lexus thing in silver on black, done deal. 3 models total. If we don't like the colors we'll just paint it our own damn selves! If somebody just has to have a purple one or whatever and is too lazy to paint it themselves then do a custom one-off and charge him a hundred and fifty bucks for it! :slap:

That's my opinion anyway, and like all internet opinions, it's worth exactly what you paid for it. :rimshot:

YMMV.

You are correct that the pre 95 grilles already say Toyota, which is why I'm only making "TOYOTA" grille emblems for the 95-97. Also I'm making a "TOYOTA" grille for a Lexus becuase of demand. It's that simple. Lot's of folks have asked for one and I'm simply trying to meet those requests. In regards to colors and paint, the grille badges are printed in the desired color combos, not painted. You don't want to paint something your going to stick on the front of your car. The years of bugs will do a number to that paint. If the object is the desired color all the way through, then you don't need to worry about chips or damage. I also am not offering a bunch of color combos; just two black/white and black /silver and I'm not even sure I will do that. I'm currently leaning toward the black /white combo only for all options. I WILL offer the modern FJ "TOYOTA" font and the oldschool FJ40 "TOYOTA" font for both the lexus and yota because there was a lot of interest in both. Right now I'm trying to figure out if I want to offer the "Plain Jane" flat background and the honeycomb with "80" background options for all the emblems or not. Once I wrap up perfect fitment for my for FJ40 and modern FJ font for both the Lexus and Yota then I will get into the issue of the top finish design. At this point I have perfected fitment on two of the 4 desings this week. I hope to have all 4 designs perfectly fited by the end of this week.

I finally got some pics of my latest double cup prototype. I have still not been able to get 100% successful prints with the double cup holder. It is still a 20+ hour print and my machine just hates that. I get about a 20-25% failure rate which has eaten up any profit I may have had. Even the successful prints often needs a LOT of sanding and acetone work to get them looking good. I havn't lost money on these (like the cupholder with cell tray design) but I havn't made money either. I finally went back to the drawing board and tried to figure out how to get this print under 12 hours. 12 hours is the sweet spot to guarantee no warping, cracking, or rough surfaces. I could just crank up the speed to 100% and increase layer hegiht to like .5 or .6 but the finished product looks like crap. It dawned on me that my best option was a two piece double cup holder. I could print one half at a nice slow clean speed with thin layers and get that under 12 hours and then do the same to the other. So I went into a redesign and this is what I came up with. I have made 4 of these and all 4 turned out beautiful. I think there is a couple left of ETSY. For the first time I have had to do zero sanding. They come off the printer perfect. The only extra work is that I now have to do a double acetone bath. There is no more warping or cracking of any kind. The seam is completely gone after the second acetone bath and final coat of paint. I am very proud of this final design and feel I MIGHT actually make a profit. (fingers crossed). Here's some pics of the process. The first pic of the two pieces seperated is right after the first quick acetone boath. I use acetone on all ABS prints (even when the surface is smooth and not needed) to melt and bond on the layers together. It makes the part significantly stronger. I then push the two pieces together and the tabs hold it in place and then do another longer acetone bath. This melts the seam and bonds the two halfs into one. After the final coat of paint I have a smooth single strong part.

Well well well.... :hillbilly:

Yep. Time to go to craigslist. The orders on here FINALLY slowed down. I also have another printer now and have designated it to full time cupholder production. I decided to expand to craigslist to see if my machine can keep up. It took less then an hour before I had sold all 6 doubles I had on ETSY. Apparently one machine can't keep up. I already got two more up last night and hope to add a few more by the end of the weekend. My old machine is now trying to crank out the "TOYOTA" grille badges now that the designs are all done. I hope to have a large batch of those ready to go sometime next week. I put that craigslist add up in 12 major cities across the west to "test" the waters. I haven't done anything past the rockies yet. I don't want to have too many adds up and then not be able to keep up with demand. That SUCKS when you get buried with orders. I need to keep my sanity and keep my family time as a priority. I'm also working with another forum member who might help me with mass production on these. I don't have the details yet, so I'm not sure if it will financially work out, but if I can get into mass production on these and take some of the day to day stress of building them off my plate; then I'm all in.

What size water bottles will these fit? The Mrs and I both have 1 liter Camelbak Eddy's. Naturally, they don't fit in any of the cup holders or the pocket in the console. I've lost my water bottle a couple times to the floor and have to wait for a right turn to grab it.

I know it holds the Nalgene bottles. Do you know if it is bigger then one of those? Here is a pic of the Nalgene bottle. The black insert has to be removed to fit the bottle and it's a tight fit but it does fit. I made the cup holder specifically that inner diameter so it would fit the Nalgene bottle.

I don't have a Nalgene water bottle, so I decided to measure. Then I couldn't find the tape measure (the kind used for clothing and sewing) so I used the string and metal tape measure. I got 11 1/2" circumference of the water bottle at the base. Based on what I could find, that 32 oz. Nalgene bottle comes out to around 12" using the string and tape...so I think I should be good.

Sounds like it should work. I do have a couple in stock. I was sold out for a couple days but got a couple printed up yesterday and today.

I received my double cup holder on Friday and got it unboxed today ( I left just after mail drop on Friday for a weekend on the river). I love it. Thank you for taking the time to make these. I just used the tape to stick it on for right now. Anyone have catastrophic failure (yet) from just using the sticky tape without screws? Trying to get a good guess as to tape's failure point. Looking forward to more designs for various things from you!

I wish I could say if the tape alone will hold indefinately but I just don't know. I installled mine with the tape and 1 screw. I had a leftover hole from the old "disco" cupholder and I used that on one of the lower holes along the passenger side. One screws and just the tape has held up great. I have done heavy wheeling with dual nalgene bottles filed to the top and nothing has come loose yet. I planned to use all 4 screws holes but just never got around to it.
