Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I recently picked up a 2002 LX 470 with 250,000 miles on the clock here in the Bay Area. I’ve previously owned a GX470 and a GX460, so I'm very familiar with the Lexus 4x4 ecosystem, but the 100-Series AHC and 2UZ specifics are a new frontier for me.
My philosophy for this build is simple: one step at a time, establishing a rock-solid baseline to keep it running for the next 250k.
Currently, I’ve got a couple of immediate fires to put out:
1. The AHC / Suspension MysteryThe truck rides incredibly harsh—bouncing and jarring over every crack in the road. I do have my own Techstream setup, so I am able to pull data, but I need help interpreting the physical side of things:
Even better—if there is a local MUD guru, retired Toyota Master Tech, or highly experienced member with a home garage setup who tackles these jobs on weekends, I would love to connect. I am more than happy to pay your going rate, bring the parts and the beer, and act as an extra set of hands so I can shadow you and learn the quirks of this platform firsthand.
Appreciate all the knowledge this forum has already provided. Looking forward to getting this rig back to that factory cloud-like ride!

- Torsion Bars: The driver's side torsion bar adjustment bolt is almost threaded to the max just to keep the truck somewhat level. It desperately needs to be re-indexed.
- The Globes: The accumulators look suspiciously new and pristine. They have perfectly clean warning stickers, smooth equatorial welds, and zero factory date stamps. I did the AHC reservoir drop test (going from Low to High), and the fluid only dropped by about 3 to 4 notches. I want to validate with someone experienced whether these are genuine Toyota parts or rigid aftermarket knock-offs, and finally fix this AHC ride quality mystery.
- The Goal: I need to get the torsion bars re-indexed, set the mechanical preload, validate the globes, and verify the resulting system pressures (target ~6.9 MPa) via Techstream.
- Timing Belt: I have records showing the timing belt was last performed at 164k, which puts me right at the 90k service interval now.
- Oil Leaks: I have visible oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets. I know the smart move is to tackle the cam seals while the timing belt is off to ensure I'm not paying for overlapping labor.
- Needs a complete bumper-to-bumper fluid baseline.
