LICruiser, I am not 100% convinced your car does not suck.

There is a anchor plate that locates the exhaust pipe as it goes over the frame. There is a muffler clamp that holds the pipe to the anchor which is bolted to the tranny IIRC Look up under the PS tire and back towards the firewall. If it is loose or missing you might get a random rattle. I like the heat shield idea also. The big question is if it is random or stays constant.

Another question is,"Does your truck really suck?" I guess only you and Josh know the truth.

No hard feelings stucky. If we were in school together I'd probably do it to you. Anyway I've isolated it to the righthand side and I believe the front. I proof positive that the noise only comes 45 and over and when I let my foot off the gas. I intilly thought it was upon accel but I was incorrect. U-joint?

If you cannot find it using some of the suggestions in this thread, it might be worthwhile dropping the driveshaft and having it checked (being sure to mark the front and rear alignment points for proper reinstallation). If you had a center diff lock switch (a non-USA Toyota switch that fits in that blank spot in your dash next to your emergency flasher button) then you could push that switch, lock the center diff in high range and drive it without the front driveshaft to be sure. Your truck is already wired for it. Go here for more info:

Of course even though it was someone else using your id, you could always go back and delete that post. ;)

I could do it too, but will leave that up to your judgement.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll have to start checking every thing this w/e. Stucky, time to change your pass word but no hard feelings. Do my truck suck? Maybe, only time will time. For the time being it is awsome other than sucking gas at $2.35 a gallon.

It certainly does not sound like a birfield. Take your truck out on a dirt road, turn the wheels till they lock and gently apply power. Then turn the wheel the other way around and do the same. Does the noise continue? Birfields also have more of a cluck sound IMX.

A clicking at speed could be related to the u-joints binding. How about a good grease service to start off.

Then you need to do more tests. Does the clicking stay with the clutch in and while free wheeling? Does the sound stays while accelerating and decelarating? Anything loose underneath the vehicle, exhuast pipe? heat shields etc.

The next step would be to place the vehicle on vehicle stands with the 4 wheels in the air. Have someone accelarate it to the problem speed and slide in underneath the vehicle to listen for the sound. Good luck and let us know what you find.

stuckey if you go back and read my first post on this thread you'll see I doubted it was you even before the denial. The point I was making is that the rogue post (that you have now deleted) is only marginally less obnoxious than a post you definitely had made a just few minutes before your denial post. No one is calling you a liar, just unitentionally ironic.

You might try pulling the culprit wheel off and check if the brake caliper anti-rattle springs are still intact or broken. I once had once that broke, and one broken end dragged on the rotor, creating some kind of grating noise that seemed to speed up as the car sped up, and was certainly more audible with the window open when there was some kind of barrier on the road to reflect the noise back to my ear. OTOH, I was able to replicate it at 10mph (ran alongside the rig as my wife drove). Anyways, I only suggested it since it's easy to check.
