Hi Guys,

I'm new here, from the middle east (Doha, Qatar) and would like to know your inputs on some questions that I have regarding the rebuild and restoration of my LC80.

Vehicle Facts:
1997 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR
4.5L 1FZ-FE 4500 EFI
Has about 500K kilometers on the ODO. Lots of work to do.

My intentions with this 80 is to get it back into really good running condition and use for mostly camping in the winters and/or travel between countries inside the GCC.

I'm completely new to this and would like some expert guidance as to what would be my best plan of action moving forward with the build.
  • What would be a reliable engine rebuild kit that I could purchase?
  • Since I will be rebuilding the engine, should I go over the gearbox as well?
  • Where can I purchase parts? (preferably locally in Doha, Qatar)
  • OEM parts or aftermarket parts?
Will post the updates and pictures soon :)

Suck bang blow stop. That has always been my order of refresh.

Will the engine turn over, will it start, will the exhaust make it out the back without killing me. After all that, can I get it stopped when it starts to move forward. Each step has a lot of littler steps to tackle.

There are a lot of parts still available from Toyota. I am stateside so no recommendations on where to get parts.

Good luck in your journey and I look forward to the pictures you mention.

As of now, it runs okay. But I’d really like to restore at least some of its past glory

PartSouq in UAE is a great source of Land Cruiser parts at good prices.

I would spend a lot of time reading through the FAQ section of the 80s forum to get a better idea of what you need to do to refresh your truck.
