I currently have a 1985 Runner on 33's. Has 3 inch from springs and Chevy rear leafs. I want to put 36's on it. I do have Hi Steer. Wondering
  • what front leaf springs to use
  • How long of rear shackles I need to use
  • Do I need to hack front and rear fenders?
Any advised or links would be appreciated

I'm thinking 4" to 5" front springs. These are longer than stock, so have to weld-in one of the front spring mount crossmembers. This then moves front axle forward about 1.5", consequently better firewall clearance. Could then additionally hammer back firewall for additional clearance. Can't answer about your Chevy springs since I don't know how you mounted them?

when you go from 33's to 36's you will start to break birfields.
I know, ended up going to longs.

as for lift. I don't like to go high so I cut the fenders and rear of fenders and moved the axle 1.5 inches forward.
this also means that you will need a longer front drive shaft.

here are a few pictures of trimed fenders with 36's and a 3 inch lift.
