As the title says I was taking off my rear shocks to get the new springs in and the lower mount bolt snapped off in the boss and then so did the easy out tool (snapped off) in the bolt. Does anyone have an old axle they aren't using that they could cut that boss off so I could cut off mine and weld a new one in place? I think that is my only option, unless someone has a better plan. The rig is a 93 fzj80 not sure if any other Toyota trucks have the same mount?

Is it too late to drill and tap?

Got a pic of the damage?

I don't know if it can be drilled and tapped? Sparkie247 didn't think so.

Before it comes out, I should mention that I was the one that broke it off in the first place. Serves me right for having a friend with a rusted out rig. I think this same stud is used on the minis, etc. Does anybody have one that's getting cut up or scrapped out? I'm thinking that it may be easier to ghetto-fab a donor in place than it would be to make a new mount from scratch. Any thoughts?

I did the same thing with one of the tranny skid plate bolts on mine.

I ended up drilling around the ez-out and backing it out.

It looks like yours is too off center to work out.

I'd still try it before going to the trouble of cutting and welding.

Good luck!

That's far enough out you might try welding a nut to the remains. The heat of welding might help loosen the rusted remnents of the bolt allowing you to remove it.

Another option is to slice down the length of the shock mount with a cutoff wheel. Then weld a nut to the busted bolt. Then back the remnents out. Weld the shock mount back up and retap. Or cut the head off a new bolt, shove the head(less) end into the shock mount and reweld. Use a nut and washer to hold the shock in place after that.

As you figured out easyouts don't work on rusted bolts. It the bolt is rusted in solid enough to twist the head off don't bother with an easyout. The only time easyouts work is if the bolt still turns in the hole after the head is snapped off. I've seen that happen once in my 40 years on this planet. A pal of mine snapped a couple knuckle studs on his minitruck. We were able to use an easyout to remove the pieces of stud left in the knuckle... Otherwise Gumby speaks truth.

My Harley is 26 years old. I love it. Reliable as hell. Can only imagine what the new ones are like. School me.
