My shocks on the rear attach to the spring plate. I don't think normal FJ40 shocks will work. Can anyone confirm?

I plan on going Rancho 9000 series because I like the adjustability. Although looking at that spring pack in the rear I kind of doubt there's much movement in back, even if I'm camping heavy it's not going to be near the weight limit on the bed. And I've removed the coil overloads and spread the spring pack restrictors.

I'm not going to be filling the bed with rock so maybe I'm spending money I don't need to?

Can anyone illuminate the issue with their experiences?

Regarding shocks, it will (as you have said) depend on your usage of the rig. I don't thing rancho 9000's have ever been worth the cash (personally). I have used bilsteins, cheapo pro comps, old man emu, etc.. with all about the same results.

Reason I am telling you this is that the travel in your rear end is likely not going to exceed any of the fj40 applicable shocks. Exceed meaning the travel of the shock.

So personally, I'd just get the FJ40 version of the OME shock, put them around all 4 and be done with it ;-)

Or, even get the cheapie pro-comps from your local 4wheel parts joint. They won't last as long, but are cheap and work good.

cheers,

dallas
