I just picked up an 8900r for my FJ60 and wondering where you guys are installing the faceplate. I already have a CB in the cubby under the radio and it'll be staying in there, so that spot is out.

My two top choices are:
1. bolted to the front of the tuffy, angled up so I can easily see it and reach the buttons while resting on the armrest.
2. under the dash below the HVAC controls.

anyone with pics?? better ideas??

thanks!

Some people mount them overhead near the rear view mirror....that might be difficult to adjust while driving though.

Nah, you get used to it in about 30 minutes. Have my 2M or dual-band radios in both the 40 and the FJC mounted there and I like the location really well - out of the way but easy to reach when you need to, and no need for an external speaker.

pics of 40 setup?

I also have a 40 (currently in many pieces) but will be putting something in there, too.

Got any pics of the 40 setup?

thanks.

Here is where I installed my faceplate in my 60.

I have no use for the ashtray, and it is completely reversible with no external trace of ever having been there.

REally nice installs

thanks for the pics...looks like I'll need to install the family cage with center console in my 40. ;-)

I like that ashtry install...nice, that it's reversible.

I've decided to install in on the fron panel of my Tuffy, facing 'up' so I can reach the controls while resting my arm on the console. I'll post up pics when I'm done. (hopefully in the next night or two)
