Can anyone help decode the production date/model year from HJ60LG-MZW and color code 033FB41K055H55F?
VIN JT1W0HJ6000956466
Thanks, current title says 1983, but must be wrong. Unfortunately Toyota Japan & Toyota Europe have not provided responses.

I totally went down a rabbit hole tonight! That was a fun adventure. Looks like 1983 is accurate. May, 1983 to be specific. Toyodiy.com seems to be reliable. Here's my research:

Thanks for the digging, but with the dual headlights, curved dash, interior fabric, 1983 doesn’t seem right

Oh shoot. You're right. I didn't even look at that. Can't imagine it being earlier than 88. Is everything original? What's the story?

Yes everything appears original. I’m the second owner in the US. Previous party stated it was an ‘88 although title says ‘83, he thought it was maybe a typo when it was imported from Spain.
Didn’t bug me until now & I’d like to get it corrected

Frame nr refers to a, 1983 LHD high roof HJ60 with round headlights and brown interior .

Wild to me that they only sold ~8,700 HJ60s in 6 years.
Four-eye headlights were a thing in non-US vehicles going back to 1983.
I can't find any examples of original, rectangular light 60-series trucks in 83. It seems they start popping up around '86 or so with the BJ series.

Ok thanks, so additional info I’ve learned is that with low production qtys, it was common for Toyota to use an earlier frame on a later production build.
Per Claude AI: This confirms your earlier assessment — the frame is likely a 1983-1984 build, while the body/interior tag confirms 1989 assembly. This is a genuine late-assembly vehicle using an earlier frame.

Mmm, doubtful about that.
Do you actually have a high roof according to the modelcode. ?

Rear hatch or barn doors ?
Hatch should be the right answer.

Documentation & orig vehicle license plate show provenance from Canary Islands Spain.
Additional Claude AI;
The Canary Islands are a Spanish territory off the African coast — a market that received special spec vehicles not sold in mainland Europe or North America.
- European spec glass
• High Roof/Sahara spec
• Electric sunroof
• 5-speed diesel
• Late assembly from earlier frame stock
• Special order = extended build timeline

This is absolutely not how Toyota builds vehicles in the modern era of manufacturing (at least since 1975).

I still believe you have a 83 frame with 89 body bolted to it . Either that or just the interior plus fenders and front have been swapped to the newer look.

That is all correct regarding the modelcode.
Bet you don't have the rear heater like most Canary island models ?
