1991 Toyota Land Cruiser PZJ77 5-Door – Parts, Death Wobble & Restoration Advice
Hi everyone!I own a 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser PZJ77, 5-door, with the 1PZ engine and approximately 150,000 km on the clock. The vehicle is located in Hyderabad, India.
I'm looking to refresh the vehicle with a few interior and exterior upgrades while keeping its original character. I'd appreciate advice from experienced 70 Series owners.
1. Parts sourcing
I've used Amayama and purchased a clutch assembly through them. The experience was good, but shipping to India and customs duties make it quite expensive. Does anyone know reliable parts suppliers, Toyota specialists, or used-parts dealers in the USA, Dubai, Japan, or elsewhere who can ship to India at more reasonable prices?
I'm looking for a steering wheel, manual transmission centre console, interior trim, dashboard, and front grille. I'd also appreciate advice on compatible parts from other 70 Series models, especially for a dashboard replacement.
2. Death wobble
I'd like to understand the common causes of death wobble on an older PZJ77 and the correct way to diagnose and fix it. Could it be related to kingpin bearings, steering components, suspension bushes, wheel bearings, tyre balance, or alignment? What should I inspect first, and have other owners experienced this problem?
3. Paint colour and exterior styling
The vehicle was last painted around 10 years ago, and I'm considering repainting it. What colours would suit this model? I'd appreciate suggestions for original Toyota colours and paint codes.
I'm also considering replacing the front grille and fitting chrome wheels. Do you think chrome would suit the five-door 70 Series, or would silver or factory-style wheels look better? Photos of similar builds would be great.
Any advice on common issues, maintenance, compatible parts, or reliable suppliers would be greatly appreciated, particularly from anyone who has restored an older 70 Series.
Thanks in advance!
