Need help with a Wire

I found a loose wire (black) that I don't know where it goes. This wire starts from top of the coil then to what looks like a resistor and then near the battery where I found it, so possibly to the battery, but positive or negative.

Any help would be appreciated

That is in fact the ground. It should be trapped by the bolt holding the igniter assembly to the fender. It's the one immediately to the left of the arrow in your second photo, to the rear of the condenser.

FWIW, it's a good idea to put you vehicle data in your sig line, so everyone knows what you're working on. Different year models are configured differently.

I have ALL the NOS OEM parts to repair that issue correctly …

I can whip-out the small black wire that attaches to the ballast resister and has the female bullet connector on it as well

No problem

This small silver can suppress,s high voltage soikes and helps preserve your distributor points based ignition system

I may take you on that once I get everything back together. Is this what makes the radio from making noise?

- these is a similar part on your external voltage regulator from the factory

- also , one on the back side of the alternator

- also , the one on the igniter too

- one on the dizzy , either inside or outside

TOTAL are 4 of these similar parts

- all 3 help suppress audio noise

- the one your dealing with has points preserving features too

- along with the one only your dizzy too
