I got LED tail lights with 3 wires each-black=tail, red=stop+turn, white=ground. How would I hook these up?

I don't see the problem ...

ttiuwp's

I understand some LED setups require relays ..

Super easy...

Tap the power off the parking light

Tap the power off the turn

And Ground tap into either neg on either light you’re tapping into

I'm running LED's up front tap'd into the parking lights and turns w/ the stock turns

Does he want brake lights also? original post is quite lacking, if so he will need to grab onto the trailer harness post convertor box, the 80 series has a 3 channel tail light + reverse, the LED lights he has are only 2 channel like a trailer.

You maybe correct, as i do not have three functions for mine, stop/tail/turn... I just use the tail (parking) and turn. however if he get's some wire taps that look like a small box with a thin plate that crimps down on the wire, the wire your tapping goes through, the wire you want to get power goes half way through, power is directed through the plate that crimps them both.

I really wouldn't bother with the trailer harness, tap off the lights you want to replace or use them for... When you hit the brakes the "signal" will go to the old and the new, grounded through the same wire as the OME light... The same would go for the turn function, except the ground would be on the brake. Should work, but if it's a "stop/tail/turn" one of those functions will be lost. Meaning when you’re on the brake and turn, one function will over ride the other.

AMMO,

With your method, each time the brake lights come on the turn signals all around the truck will come on. The power will backfeed through the jumper to the rest of the system. Probably even light up all the lights when one of the turn signals is used. RavenTia has it correct. If Wrench wants to use LED S/T/T lights on the back of his truck he needs to use a converter to wire them up correctly. Or he needs to use another light for the turn signal.

I need help bad! I can't get my directionals working. All I got for trailer wiring is the T4 3 wire connecter and T5 and T6 2 wire connecter which are a male and female plugged together. So I tapped off the T4 connecter to get my tail and brake lights to work. They work fine but when I tap off the T5 & T6 connecter for my turn signals both directionals blink and fast. What am I doing wrong? This is so fustrating since I am driving around with no directionals. Please help me.

some more info would help, what exactly are you trying to do?

are you replacing the factory tail lights with LED assemblies? or just adding LED lights in addition to the OEM tail lights?

the blinker relays are load sensetive, the rate they blink is based on the load of the light bulbs, LEDs are a much lighter load, if you do not have your OEM tail lights you will need an electronic flasher and blinker.

I am replacing the OEM tail lights with LED ones.

Ok you are going to need different blinker and flasher relays that are not load sensitive.

As for where to tap why not the 4 pin trailer harness? It should have everything you need. Does your truck not have the trailer package? if not you will need to get the converter box, there are some threads about that one.

I don't think I have the 4 pin trailer harness. Where is it located? I only found the connectors I described above under the rear crossmember. That's all i have there. I'm not sure if my 80 has a the trailor package.
Oh I don't really care how fast they blink I just want to get them to work.

To get the turn signals to work you need a converter box like is used for trailer lights. Without that piece of hardware it ain't happening. Walmart and most autoparts stores have them and they're not that expensive.

If, after you have correctly installed the converter, the lights flash too fast you will then need an electronic flasher for your truck. These are also available at the parts stores. Usually for less than $10.

So let me get this right I need a converter box for trailer lights? That's what I tell the parts guy I want? He will know what I am talking about?

I'm sure LX_TREME has some sort of schematic... :D

Ok thanks Guys for the help! Much appreciated!
